Directed by Kiran Rao, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ premiered in theatres on March 1, 2024.

Adapted from Biplab Goswami’s award-winning novel, the film features Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan in leading roles. Set in rural India in 2001, the story follows two brides who are swapped during a train journey, leading their husbands on a quest to find the true bride.

Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ marks Kiran Rao’s return to directing after Dhobi Ghat. The film was well-received at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, earning a standing ovation. It has since been praised by Hansal Mehta, Mira Kapoor, and recently, Vijay Varma, who called it ‘exceptional.’

‘Late to the party. Watched Laapataa Ladies last night. It’s exceptional! Some films make you fall in love with cinema all over again and this one did more than that. Many congratulations to @raodyness and her gifted team for this firecracker of a film. It’s so inspiring to see young actors blossom this way! A fresh new wave has emerged, and it was so needed!,’ Vijay wrote.
