Kirron Kher reveals why she’s not contesting Lok Sabha elections; talks about PM Modi’s phone call

Kirron Kher is a popular name in Indian households, especially in Punjab where the actor and politician have contested and won election of Member of Parliament twice. Despite her victory in the last two Lok Sabha elections from Chandigarh constituency, BJP’s popular leader is not contesting in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. While many wondered about the party dropping her, Kirron Kher has clarified on the same.

Kirron Kher explains why she is not contesting in Lok Sabha polls

Two-time MP from Chandigarh, Kirron Kher has cleared the air about not running in upcoming Lok Sabha elections in an interview with Times Now. The BJP leader said that she was not dropped by the party, instead she herself requested to be exempted from contesting. She said, “Two months ago, I met our party president JP Nadda and Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah and requested that they let me sit out this time. When I fell ill… I had multiple myeloma… I had to be in Mumbai for about a year for my treatment. By the grace of God, I am completely fine now. But I missed out on that year in Chandigarh. And I don’t want my party to suffer because of my absence,” She also cleared that even though she is not contesting this time, her association with the BJP is not over.

Kirron Kher recalls PM Modi’s phone call

Kirron Kher was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo recovery treatment. Recalling the time of illness, she revealed that Prime Minister Modi had called her to ask about her well-being. She said, “He was so kind to me and called me when I fell ill. He told me not to worry about anything and urged me to relax since I was so worried about missing Parliament sessions.”
