Kiran Rao’s directorial ‘Laapataa Ladies’ was released in theatres in March. However, the film gained bigger attention on OTT. While the film has received rave reviews from critics and fans, Rao reveals that she sees her film’s box office performance as a failure.

Kiran Rao feels responsible for failure of ‘Laapataa Ladies’

After making an impressive debut with ‘Dhobi Ghat’, Kiran Rao returned to director’s seat with ‘Laapataa Ladies’. The film didn’t work well in theatres but saw a flurry of positive reactions and love from audience upon its Netflix release. In a recent interview, the filmmaker said that the film was a failure at the box office.

“By box office metrics, we weren’t a success. In the conventional sense, we didn’t do hundreds of crores, or even Rs 30,40, 50 crore. Failure is the way to put it. I do feel responsible that the film didn’t do that well at the box office,” the filmmaker said.

      Kiran Rao talks about ‘failure’

Kiran Rao shed light on the long gap between her two films. She revealed that she has been working relentlessly for the last 10 years. She said, “After my first film, I though my second film would come soon. But that soon just didn’t come. It got me on a daily basis.” “I’m sure most creative people have to face that sense of failure a lot when they don’t achieve something soon enough or they don’t achieve it at all,” she added.

      About ‘Laapataa Ladies’
