Jaya Bachchan reveals she never addresses Amitabh Bachchan as 'tum', calls 'bad manners' big red flag

Jaya Bachchan has spilled some rare beans about her relationship with husband-actor Amitabh Bachchan. The veteran actor recently appeared on granddaughter Navya Naveli's podcast, 'What the Hell Navya', where she shared her thoughts on dating and relationships.

Jaya and Amitabh fell in love when he wasn't a force to be reckoned with which he is now, while she had already established herself as a bona fide actor in the Hindi film industry.

Jaya Bachchan on 'Red Flags' in a Relationship

When Navya asked Jaya what according to her are the 'red flags' in a relationship, the veteran actor immediately replied, "Bad manners would be a big red flag."

She further added, "One thing that I really dislike is when people say ‘tu’ or ‘tum’, no matter with whom. Have you ever heard me talking to your grandfather using ‘tum?’ I think these things require conscious efforts, which your generation doesn’t make. Until you don't respect someone, there will be no love. Boundaries are very important.”

Jaya Bachchan on self-love

The actor also spoke about self-love and depending on others for one’s happiness. Recalling a piece of advice her mother-in-law, Teji Bachchan, once gave her, she revealed, “I remember, my mother-in-law always used to say, ‘The less you expect from people, you will face less disappointment in life’. I try to follow that.” She also added, “Happiness should come from a situation, from a feeling, and not by expecting it (from someone else).”

About Navya's podcast

'What the Hell Navya' is a feel-good talk show with Navya Nanda, Shweta Bachchan, and Jaya Bachchan where three women from different generations come together to share their thoughts on love, life, and work.
