'Deepika sat on Ranveer's lap': Gulshan Devaiah recalls beginning of duo's love story

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who worked with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh on the set of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela’, recalled the beginning of their love story in a recent interview.

The actor said he was surprised at how quickly things progressed by the time they started working on the second schedule.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he said, ‘First schedule mein toh humne kuch nahi dekha. Second schedule laga tha Udaipur mein, aur wahan pe notice kiya, arey godi mein baithi hai yeh, kya hogaya yeh. Humne toh notice hi nahi kiya tha guru. Yeh kab hogaya. Gaana-waana song sequence do-teen karwaye they, tab toh kuch nai dikha humein, aake apna kaam karke chali jaati thi (We didn’t notice anything during the first schedule, but my second schedule was in Udaipur, and suddenly, I saw her sitting in his lap. I was like, when did this happen? She used to quietly come and do her job and leave, we’d shot two or three song sequences as well, but we noticed nothing).’

Gulshan continued, ‘I think Ranveer was smitten by her right from the beginning. This I don’t know for sure, but from what I remember, he was very smitten by her right from the beginning. I think jee-jaan laga ke pursue kiya hoga (he must have pursued her really hard).’

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh fell in love while working on the film and tied the knot in Italy in 2018. The couple has worked together in three films as the lead pair – ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Padmaavat’, and ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela’.

Ranveer has also appeared in a cameo in the film ‘Finding Fanny’, while Deepika returned the favour with an extended appearance in ‘83’, and a cameo in ‘Cirkus.
