‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ X reviews: Imtiaz Ali’s film starring Diljit Dosanjh wins over Internet

The much-awaited biopic on Punjab’s most popular singer Amar Singh Chamkila is out on Netflix. The film starring Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role and Parineeti Chopra as his wife Amarjot, is receiving a lot of praises and positive reviews on the Internet.

The Imtiaz Ali directorial ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ premiered on the streaming platform Netflix on Friday. Within hours of its release, the fans took to social media to drop their reviews of the film. Diljit Dosanjh’s performance has left almost everyone impressed and so has A R Rahman’s music and Imtiaz Ali’s direction. Taking to X, several users have praised the film, many calling it a grand comeback for the director Imtiaz Ali and a career-best performance by Diljit Dosanjh.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1980s Punjab, 'Amar Singh Chamkila' dives deep into the life of Chamkila, who rose from obscurity to become the "highest record-selling artiste" of Punjab.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, Imtiaz Ali said that the film is a love story between Chamkila and his music album. He said, “I feel that this film or Chamkila's life in a way is a love story between Chamkila and music. Here is a man who was so scared at some point of time about the warnings that he got, that he actually broke down and cried and he was scared that he would be killed. From that point, a few years later, knowing fully well that if he continued to sing in live performances, he might be gunned down, he still chose to sing."
