'All We Imagine As Light' fame Chhaya Kadam on being teased for team's Cannes dance: Why follow protocol?

Payal Kapadia's film ‘All We Imagine As Light’ scripted history at the 77th edition of Cannes with the ‘Le Grand Prix’ award win at the prestigious film festival. The film, which was in contention for the Palme d'Or, was the first Indian movie to compete in the main competition at Cannes in 30 years. Following the historic feat, actor Chhaya Kadam who played a pivotal role in the film, was seen dancing her heart out on the red carpet. Kapadia, along with Chhaya, Kani Kusruti, and Divya Prabha, was also seen joining the celebrations. While it was a wholesome moment to witness, many called out the actor for channelling a free-wheeling attitude on a global stage. Chhaya has now revealed that someone from Mumbai also called her to tease her about the same. Here's how she reacted.

Chhaya on dancing at Cannes Red Carpet

Speaking with news agency PTI, Chhaya talked about who started dancing first, "I'm not sure at this point, but it was probably me. Someone from Mumbai called and joked, 'You were dancing as if you were in your own courtyard'. I was like, 'Kyun nahin (Why not)?' Just to be part of the main competition after 30 years is a huge achievement, not to count the award that we won. Why follow protocol? Hum apni khushi aise hi dikhaate hain, kood kood kar (That's how we express our joy, by breaking into a dance)."

She added, "When we stood still for photographs, even the photographers started requesting us to keep dancing. There was just so much happiness around. The sign that the film would win big at the festival was apparent." The actor also revealed that she heard the internet-famous Marathi song 'Gulabi Saree' playing when she stepped out of her car for the premiere of the film.

About ‘All We Imagine As Light’

‘All We Imagine as Light’, a Malayalam-Hindi feature, is about Prabha, a nurse, who receives an unexpected gift from her long-estranged husband that throws her life into disarray. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a private spot in the big city to be alone with her boyfriend.
One day the two nurses go on a road trip to a beach town where the mystical forest becomes a space for their dreams to manifest, according to the plotline.
