Akshay Kumar steps down as Vimal Elaichi's brand ambassador, renders an apology to his fans

A few days ago, Akshay Kumar joined Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn as the brand ambassador of 'Vimal Elaichi' pan masala. Moments after the ad got aired, the actor faced immense backlash from many of his fans. The actor got trolled badly on social media.

Consequently, Akshay Kumar announced his decision to step down as the brand's ambassador. The actor took to social media to announce his decision. He even rendered an apology to all his fans for endorsing the brand.

Taking to his Instagram handle, he wrote, “I am sorry. I would like to apologise to you, all my fans and well-wishers. Your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi”.

Akshay further added, “With all humility, I step back. I have decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause. The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices. In return, I shall forever continue to ask for your love and wishes.”

On the work front, Akshay Kumar was last seen in 'Bachchhan Paandey', which met with a lukewarm response from the audience. Akshay's upcoming films include 'Raksha Bandhan', 'Ram Setu', 'Prithviraj' and 'Selfiee' amongst others.
