Akshay Kumar reveals he backed out of ‘Hera Pheri 3’ because he was not satisfied with the script

Actor Akshay Kumar finally confirmed his exit from ‘Hera Pheri’ franchise during a session of Hindustan Times Leadership Summit on Saturday, November 12. He mentioned that he didn’t sign the forthcoming third installment of the popular franchise due to creative differences.

‘'Hera Pheri' has been a part of me. A lot of people have memories and even I have good memories of it. But I feel sad that we haven't made the third part for so many years. The film was offered to me but I was not satisfied with the screenplay and the script. I was not happy with it,’ Kumar said at the HT Leadership Summit here.

‘I have to do what people want to see. So I backed out. For me, 'Hera Pheri' is a part of life, my journey in a huge way. I'm equally sad about it and that I'm not able to do the third part. But I'm not happy with the way things have shaped up creatively,’ he added.

Akshay starred alongside veteran actor Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty in the original ‘Hera Pheri’, which was released in 2000, followed by a sequel, titled ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ (2006), in which the trio reprised their respective roles of Raju, Babu Bhaiya and Shyam.

Kartik Aaryan will be replaced Akshay in the third instalment of ‘Hera Pheri’ as confirmed by Paresh Rawal. However, Internet is unhappy, and ‘No Akshay, no Heri Pheri’ trended on Twitter on Friday, November 11.

Akshay was also asked why he works so much that he has 4-5 releases a year, to which he responded, ‘Tell me, does anyone here ask their kids why they work so much? People ask ítni gambling kyun karta hai, itna peeta kyun hai (why do you gamble so much, why do you drink so much)’. But who questions someone for working a lot?’

Defending his decision to do four films a year, he said would continue to do so in the future as well. ‘I do four films a year. Yes, I do it. I do ads, sure. I work, but I am not stealing from anyone. I don't understand. Mediapersons ask me why do you get up early? But, morning is for waking up, right. They ask me why do you sleep so early. Arre bewakoof, raat ko sota hai aadmi (You fool, people sleep at night). I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I will work, who won’t if they have a chance to do work. I will do four films. I will give 50 days if required and 90 days if needed,’ he said.

Akshay Kumar was last seen in action-adventure movie ‘Ram Setu’.
