Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will formally appoint Rajkummar Rao as a National Icon of the EC on Thursday, October 26.

Actor Rajkummar Rao set to be appointed as India's National Icon by Election Commission

Indian actor Rajkummar Rao, renowned for his compelling portrayal of a government official organizing elections in Naxal-affected Chhattisgarh in the film "Newton," is set to be honored as a National Icon by the Election Commission (EC).

The EC, aiming to inspire voter participation, appoints distinguished individuals for this recognition.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will officially bestow Rao with this honor, acknowledging his role as a dedicated clerk striving for a fair election amidst challenges.

"Newton" received critical acclaim, earning the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and representing India at the 90th Academy Awards.

Notably, Rao's exceptional performance resonated deeply, contributing to his recognition as a National Icon alongside other luminaries like Pankaj Tripathi, Aamir Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, M S Dhoni, and M C Mary Kom.

Meanwhile, in his professional ventures, Rajkummar Rao recently appeared in Raj & DK’s "Guns & Gulabs."

His upcoming project, "Mr and Mrs Mahi" with Janhvi Kapoor, directed by Sharan Sharma, is highly anticipated.

In this film, Rao portrays Mahendra Singh Dhoni, while Janhvi takes on the role of Mahima.

The movie, a collaboration between Dharma Productions and Zee Studios, is slated for a theatrical release on March 15, 2024, as announced by Karan Johar's production house.

Apart from this, Rao is also gearing up for "Stree 2," adding to his impressive lineup of projects. His multifaceted talents continue to captivate audiences, making him a revered figure in the Indian film industry.
