'BJP workers attacked my car': Mamata's claim in PM Modi bastion while campaigning for SP-RLD | Varanasi

On the day that Uttar Pradesh voted in its penultimate phase, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency to campaign for the Opposition Samajwadi Party.

The rally was addressed by Mamata, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, and ally Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary.

The Trinamool Congress supremo called Akhilesh her "younger brother", and accused BJP workers of attacking her car. She said, "When I was going to the ghat from the airport, some BJP workers, who can't think of anything except violence, stopped by car. They hit my car with sticks. They pushed the car. They told me to go back. That's when I realised that BJP is losing."

amata also invoked Hindu god Shiv in the temple town where PM Modi has been camping for 3 days to campaign for the ongoing polls.

Akhilesh raised the issue of rising prices, saying "Hasn't BJP made petrol and diesel pricier? Right now, they are selling petrol at Rs 100 per litre. If BJP is re-elected, then they will sell petrol at Rs 200 per litre. Are you alert?"

Voting in the high-profile district and 8 others will take place on March 7, before results are announced on March 10.

Mamata's Varanasi trip comes amid her push to be seen as a national-level Opposition leader ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
