Teleperformance to hire 60,000 people in India amid Tech layoffs

Teleperformance plans to hire 60,000 in India over 2 years, taking total employee count to 150,000. The global firm sees India as a strategic talent hub

Teleperformance to hire 60,000 people in India amid Tech layoffs

Teleperformance, a global digital business services firm, is bucking the trend during a time of tech layoffs by announcing its ambitious plan to hire approximately 60,000 people in India over the next two years. This move comes as the company seeks to expand its operations in the country, taking its total employee strength from around 90,000 to 150,000.

Anish Mukker, CEO of Teleperformance in India, speaking to Business Standard highlighted the strategic importance of the country as a talent hub for the company. He emphasized that India possesses the best talent for high-end non-voice work, including underwriting, financial planning, and customer problem-solving. The company currently has centres in key locations such as Gurugram, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur, Indore, and Mohali, and is eyeing the opening of additional centres in Noida, Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad to support its growth objectives.

For Teleperformance India, two major verticals are Banking, Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI) and travel and hospitality. The company works closely with these industries to enhance customer experiences and provide citizen services. Mukker also noted that healthcare is an emerging sector for them, along with collaborations with state governments in areas like income tax, resulting in nearly 30,000 employees serving local Indian clients.

Furthermore, Teleperformance is looking to leverage the power of AI through partnerships with startups rather than outright acquisitions. The CEO explained that partnerships are becoming the preferred approach for industry players like Accenture as well.

Despite the challenging economic landscape with tech layoffs, Teleperformance's bold hiring plan underscores its confidence in India's talent pool and its commitment to continued growth and expansion. As the company strengthens its position in key sectors and markets, it reaffirms its status as a major player in the digital business services arena.
