Amazon terminates employees in its Pharmacy division as part of cost-cutting measures. The move aims to improve efficiency and enhance the customer experience amid ongoing layoffs in the tech industry.

Amzon Layoffs 2023: After large-scale layoffs, Amazon cuts more jobs. In a bid to streamline operations and cut costs, Amazon has terminated several employees within its Pharmacy business unit.

The e-commerce giant confirmed to CNBC that a "small number" of staff members from the Amazon Pharmacy division have been let go. This move comes as part of Amazon's ongoing efforts to improve processes for quality and efficiency, ultimately enhancing the customer experience.

Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser addressed the layoffs, stating that the company made the decision to adjust resources within the pharmacy section.

The affected roles were primarily from the Amazon Pharmacy Services team. Amazon did not disclose the exact number of employees affected.

This year alone, Amazon has already implemented large-scale layoffs. CEO Andy Jassy previously revealed 18,000 job cuts, followed by an additional 9,000 employees being laid off. In May, 500 employees in India were terminated across various business sectors, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), human resources, and support functions.

Amazon is not alone in making workforce reductions. Other tech giants have also resorted to layoffs. Microsoft recently laid off 275 employees, adding to the 10,000 individuals who were asked to leave earlier in the year. The company emphasized that organizational and workforce adjustments are necessary for managing their business and reaffirmed its commitment to strategic growth areas.

However, a shift in approach to layoffs has become apparent. Silicon Valley is now opting for phased terminations to limit the number of individuals laid off at once, minimizing negative PR and avoiding international headlines. This change comes after previous large-scale layoffs resulted in reputational challenges for companies like Amazon.
