Former Tech Mahindra Vice Chairman Vineet Nayyar passes away at the age of 85

Vineet Nayyar who led Tech Mahindra during the critical acquisition of Satyam and oversaw the subsequent merger passed away at the age of 85. Industry leaders have been expressing their condolences for the loss.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra shared the news of the death of the former executive Vice Chairman of Tech Mahindra.

"It saddens me to share the news of the passing of Vineet Nayyar this morning," Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra posted on X

Condolences mount

Anand Mahindra further wrote that he would personally be most grateful to Nayyar for his vision in exhorting the firm to establish the Mahindra University, on the campus of the erstwhile Satyam Computer.

Similarly former MD and CEO of Tech Mahindra, CP Gurnani also expressed his grief calling it heartbreaking and that India has lost one of its finest leaders. Gurnani also named Vineet Nayyar his Guru and wrote, "On #GuruPurab, I am reminded of none other than Vineet Nayyar, and the mentorship, partnership, and camaraderie I enjoyed through various milestones of our professional journey".

He further wrote that Vineet is a friend, guide, and a true visionary from whom he learnt patience, the importance of consensus management, and a laser focus on the bottom line

Nasscom which is a technology body in India also mourned the loss of Vineet Nayyar saying his visionary leadership and dedication have left an indelible mark on the industry.

Nayyar was born in 1939 and had completed his master's in development economics from Williams College, Massachusetts. He started his career with the Indian Administrative Services, holding several senior positions including that of a District Magistrate, Haryana Agriculture Secretary and Director, Department Of Economic Affairs in the Central Government.

Vineet Nayyar was the founding Chairman & Managing Director of state-run Gas Authority of India (GAIL). After moving to the private sector, he served as the Managing Director of HCL Corp and as the Vice Chairman of HCL Technologies.
