Bengaluru airport suspends entry fees for vehicles following backlash from passengers, drivers

The Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL) has revoked its decision to impose entry fees on vehicles, reported Moneycontrol. As per the report, BIAL suspended the move to impose entry fee for arrival pickups following protests from drivers and backlash from passengers as well as online outrage on Monday

No entry fees

The report also quoted agitated citizens who called the move, "daylight robbery". Protesting the decision, cab drivers had also planned to stage a protest from Begur Road to the arrival pickup point on May 22, demanding a rollback.

The airport on Monday imposed entry fees of Rs 150 for up to 7 minutes. Beyond that they were to be charged a fee of Rs 300. Private vehicles (whiteboard) were required to pay a fee of Rs 150 for above 7 minutes up to 14 minutes.

Buses were to be charged an entry fee of Rs 600 while tempo travelers were supposed to pay Rs 300. Buses and tempo travelers are allowed to enter through Lane 3 (Terminal 1).

As per Moneycontrol, the airport was planning to collect the entry fee through FASTag, leading to automatic deduction.

The report quoted source from BIAL and said that stay and overstay charges were for vehicles accessing the arrival pickup lanes at Terminal 1 and 2.
