Fresh round of layoffs by Amazon India; Hands pink slips to employees in HR, web services

Amazon India lays off employees from its AWS and PXT teams as part of its downsizing plan announced in March that was expected to affect 9000 employees

Fresh round of layoffs by Amazon India; Hands pink slips to employees in HR, web services

In a fresh round of layoffs, Amazon India has given pink slips to employees in Amazon Web Services and People Experience and Technology Solutions (PXT) verticals, reported Business Today. This current layoff is part of the downsizing plans that was announced in March by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.

As per Business Today, this round of layoff might affect nearly 400 to 500 employees. Business Today also reported that around 100 employees were laid off from Amazon's HR team People Experience and Technology Solutions (PXT) late last week.

In April, Amazon's web services' CEO Adam Selipsky had announced through an internal memo that the layoffs in the unit will start from North America and then would take place globally. He mentioned that the downsizing is due to the drop in revenue and the macroeconomic conditions.

“Both our company size and the size of our team have grown significantly in recent years, driven by customer demand for the cloud and the unique value that AWS offers. This growth has come quickly as we have moved as fast as we could to build what customers needed. Given this rapid growth, as well as the broader business and macroeconomic climate, it is critical that we focus on identifying and putting our resources behind our top priorities – the things that matter most to customers and that will move the needle in our business,” Selipsky wrote in the memo.

Similarly, Senior VP and Global Head of PXT at Amazon, Beth Galetti also mentioned that the team will undergo layoff.
