India, Singapore to Pioneer Global Dispute Resolution Standards

Singapore, Aug 27 (PTI) – India and Singapore are poised to establish global standards in fair, transparent, and efficient dispute resolution, according to Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal. Addressing the Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) Symposium cum Roundtable on Wednesday, Meghwal highlighted significant transformations in India's arbitration laws and the formation of the India International Arbitration Centre. These changes mark a decisive step towards crafting a world-class dispute resolution infrastructure. These initiatives aim to make arbitration in India faster, more efficient, and more reliable, as explained to approximately 150 attendees at the symposium titled, “Bridging Markets, Resolving Disputes via ADR in the India-Singapore Corridor.”

“By jointly engaging, India and Singapore, two vibrant democracies with rapidly expanding economies, can establish global standards in fair, transparent, and efficient dispute resolution. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to prosperity, stability, and sustainable development,” Meghwal asserted.

“Such advancements not only bolster contract enforcement but also enhance the confidence of both domestic and international investors,” added Meghwal, who arrived in Singapore for a three-day visit. The ICA noted that the symposium offers a timely strategic opportunity to deepen India-Singapore legal and economic ties. "Collaboration between the two nations in the realm of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is mutually advantageous and crucial to promoting Asia’s voice in the global legal and economic arenas,” proclaimed the ICA. The minister is accompanied by a delegation including top legal luminaries such as ICA President N G Khaitan and ICA Director General Arun Chawla.
