Umran Malik may have been the find of the IPL last year, but the fast bowler found himself in the line of fire this season.
He was criticised for leaking runs and taking fewer wickets. As a result, the Sunrisers Hyderabad dropped the 23-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir after just a handful of games.
However, Umran made it to SRH playing XI for the game vs Mumbai Indians and ahead of that clash he hit back at his critics.
Responding to the criticism, he said that last year, he played all games and bowled all overs. But in IPL 2023, he bowled fewer overs and as a result, took 5 wickets only.
'I don't think my pace is impacted. If I bowl only two overs... I also need some overs to heat up my batteries and get that pace up,' Umran added.

&ldquo;I felt Umran Malik has not been handled well by the franchise, (in) the way he should have been handled, (in) the way SRH should have utilised his services. That&rsquo;s something which was evident,&rdquo; Zaheer added.&nbsp;
Earlier, SRH captain Aiden Markram surprised everybody with his comment on Umran Malik during the toss against RCB on Thursday night.
When asked why Umran was not playing, Markram said: "Not too sure to be honest. Certainly, he&rsquo;s a player with the X factor, bowls at 150kph, but I don&rsquo;t really what&rsquo;s (happening) behind the scenes."

"We have great expectations of Umran, and he has got Dale Steyn to work with. But we have to play each game to win. We have to put our best eleven out on the field. And now, with the Impact Player, our best 12. It's strictly on the fact that it's about the form of the player that we look at before picking the team," Lara said.
Umran gained fame by clocking &nbsp;150 kmph-plus speed on several occasions last year, his breakthrough season which saw him being picked for the national team as well.
However, the 23-year-old hit a rough patch in IPL 2023, and could only snaffle 5 wickets in 7 games at an economy rate in excess of 10.

Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar reckons that Indian bowler Umran Malik has the potential to break his record for the fastest delivery in world cricket.

Never reduce your aggression, even if you are getting beaten a lot, then also don't reduce your aggression. Always bowl fast, and never leave it. When you go to the field, the ownership of the ground has to be yours. Don't break and train a lot." Shoaib said in an interview.

Sakariya and Choudhary got their visas on time as they were part of an exchange programme, the Indian Board, however, applied for the visas of the other 2 pacers later. As per reports, due to the delay in their visa arrival, BCCI has decided to drop them.&nbsp; Since the duo was neither a part of the squad nor named in the reserves, the net bowlers' case could not be expedited. Former India cricketer Aakash Copra has put his views saying that Arshdeep is a better option than Umran as the Punjab Kings bowler is more mature and experienced. 
Notably, Umran debuted in a T20I against Ireland, and Arshdeep made his first appearance in the shortest format of cricket for team India against England. 
Umran has played 3 T20I for India in which he has taken 2 wickets conceding 112 runs with an economy of 12.44. Meanwhile, Arshdeep has played just 1 T20I and 2/18 was his final figure in that match.  
In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra said that Umran is not ready for international cricket as of now. Umran is special and has an extreme pace that others don’t have but one can’t teach him how to bowl with the speed, the former-Indian cricketer added. 
Earlier, many other cricket pundits also put their opinions on the topic. While English cricketer Michael Vaughan suggested that BCCI should send Umran to play county cricket, Virender Sehwag said that if Umran is used efficiently, he will be an asset to the Team.

Ever since the Jammu Express, Umran Malik, made his international debut for Team India, he has been the talk of the town.
While some were thrilled by his lethal pace, some believe he&rsquo;s still very raw to be playing cricket on the biggest stage.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently shared his views regarding Umran Malik&rsquo;s selection to the national side. He compared India&rsquo;s two new debutants in the past month - Umran and Arshdeep. Chopra stated that for him, Arshdeep is a better option than Umran. In the 3 T20Is that Umran has played till now, he has picked up 2 wickets but his economy of 12.44 is extraordinarily high.
And Chopra put out a video on his Youtube channel, where he said that Umran is not ready for international cricket as of now.
Many other cricket pundits had also shared their opinion on Umran in recent times. While English cricketer Michael Vaughan wanted BCCI to send Umran to play county cricket earlier this summer, Virender Sehwag had said that if Umran is used effectively, he will be an asset to the team.
There&rsquo;s another school of thought which believes that ushering Umran into international cricket should be done through Tests instead of limited-overs cricket since there's more room for error in the longest format.
In Tests, with batsmen usually playing with a defensive mindset, Umran can be groomed to withstand the pressure of international cricket in a controlled manner.
His lethal pace no doubt is a gift but India needs to figure out the best way to utilise it. And maybe, helping him settle into the Test side first may do wonders for his confidence.
Umran is truly a once-in-a-generation bowler but like all diamonds require polishing, he needs the right guidance to realise his true potential.

Having won the match against Ireland by 6 wickets, Hardik Pandya successfully cleared the test to win his first ever T20I match as a India captain. Although India won under Hardik's leadership, a few fans seemed unhappy with some of Hardik's decisions in the game.
Fans used Twitter to troll Hardik over his decision to give debutant Umran Malik just one over. Umran Malik came to bowl in the 6th over conceding 12 runs in his one over spell and didn't bowl since then. 
Anand Srinivasan wrote on Twitter, "Very shameless captaincy by Hardik Pandey in Ind vs Ireland. He never knew how to use his bowlers effective. Umran Malik should have been given additional overs. He should work with NZ captain, who has better idea."
Comparing Hardik and Umran, Pankaj Priyadarshini wrote, "Umran Malik was given just one over in 12 overs match, in which he gave 14 runs. Captain Hardik Pandya himself bowled 2 overs and gave 26 runs. Umran should have given one more over."
Paritosh Kumar also looked unhappy with Hardik bowling 2 overs and said, "Umran Malik should have bowled 1 more over and Hardik Pandya shouldn't have bowled his 2nd over. One over don't decide how bad/good a bowler is."
While the first game of the two T20Is against Ireland was the first T20I for Hardik as the India captain, Umran Malik played his first ever match for India. India leads the series by 1-0.

Even though India won under Hardik's leadership, a few fans were unhappy with some of Hardik's decisions in the game.
The Indian captain's decision to give debutant Umran Malik just one over didn't go down too well with a number of fans.&nbsp; Umran who came to bowl in the 6th over conceded 14 runs from his first international over and didn't get another opportunity in the game.
Unhappy with the decision to not give Umran another over, netizens slammed Hardik's captaincy on Twitter.
While one user termed Hardik's captaincy as shameless, another rued the fact that Umran in his debut game for India was given just one over. The fact that Hardik himself bowled two overs also didn't go down too well with the Twitterati.

Ahead of the first T20I against South Africa, Team India went through their first practice session at Feroz Shah Kotla ground in New Delhi on Monday. The team practiced hard under the watchful eyes of head coach Rahul Dravid and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey.
The intense practice session started with warmups and fielding drills. The players then went on for batting and bowling sessions.

The five-match series between India and South Africa will kick-start on Thursday in New Delhi.

Gujarat Titans' pacer Lockie Ferguson has bowled the fastest delivery of IPL 2022 in the final match against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. 
The 30-year old pacer bowled a delivery clocking 157.3kmph against Rajasthan and overtook Sunrisers Hyderabad's Umran Malik, who had bowled a delivery of 157kmph in the ongoing season.
Ferguson and Umran had been the fastest bowlers throughout the season.
With this delivery, Lockie Ferguson has broken Umran's dream to become the fastest bowler of the season.
