Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar appeared on &lsquo;The Daily Show&rsquo; with host Kal Penn this week to promote her recent release, 'The Archies.'
During the interview, Kal and Zoya reminisced about a dinner at her place where her dog had a mishap with Kal's brie and choked on the food.
Zoya humorously narrated the incident, describing how they had to intervene swiftly to help the dog, eliciting laughter from the audience.
Kal then shared his experiences with unusual requests from Indian paparazzi, like being asked to lie down. Zoya, in contrast, praised their sweetness. She recounted a moment when she fell in front of the paparazzi and requested them to refrain from publishing the photos, to which they kindly agreed.
Zoya also spoke about her film &lsquo;The Archies&rsquo;.
When asked what made her take on the project, she simply said that Netflix approached her with it.
She expressed how &lsquo;Archie&rsquo; was a universal read and served as a gateway to the US for them.
Kal also asked Zoya about the scene between Reggie and Dilton that is a hit with many of those who watched the movie.
Zoya talked about the decriminalization of homosexuality in India recently and how that has brought along a healthy change.
&lsquo;The Archies&rsquo; is a coming-of-age musical that follows the lives of Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel, and Dilton. It takes audiences to the fictional hilly town of Riverdale. The film explores friendship, freedom love, heartbreak, and rebellion. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
The movie stars Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Agastya Nanda, Yuvraj Menda, Mihir Ahuja and Dot.
&lsquo;The Archies&rsquo; premiered at the 54th International Film Festival of India on 22 November 2023, and was released on Netflix on 7 December 2023. The film was released to mixed reviews from critics.

In keeping with tradition, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan took some time off from his packed schedule to greet fans gathered outside his Mumbai home. He pleasantly surprised them by bringing his grandson, Agastya Nanda, along.
The images, shared by the renowned actor on X (previously Twitter), showed him waving to the enthusiastic fans alongside Agastya, who recently made his Bollywood debut with the Netflix film &lsquo;The Archies&rsquo;.
Accompanying the pictures was tweet number 4856 with the caption 'Sunoo' accompanied by a red flower emoji. It refers to the song &lsquo;Sunoh&rsquo; from the Zoya Akhtar directorial.&nbsp;
For the occasion, Big B wore a multi-coloured sweatshirt with white joggers, while Agastya wore a basic black t-shirt with a pair of blue pants.

The Bachchan family, Shah Rukh Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Kajol were among many others present at the event.&nbsp;
Hours after the screening of &lsquo;The Archies&rsquo;, Abhishek Bachchan took to Instagram to welcome his nephew Agastya to the movies. Sharing a picture from the screening, Abhishek wrote, &lsquo;All you have to do is reach out and I'll be there to hold your hand. Welcome to the movies my dearest Agastya!&rsquo;

The trailer for the film was released in November. The forthcoming film promises to be a tale of friendship as the gang strives to save their town, Riverdale.&nbsp;
Talking about the idea of adapting &lsquo;The Archies&rsquo; comics, Zoya Akhtar said that she was initially unsure if the essence of the comic could be retained, but &lsquo;Since it&rsquo;s a global IP, I need to be able to take something from here and do it in a language that retains its original essence and speaks to kids today. We were excited about that. We have done whatever we wanted to, and now we are getting scared, as always.&rsquo;
The Archies is a heartwarming coming-of-age story set in the vintage aesthetic backdrop of the 1960s and is a collaboration between Netflix India, Tiger Baby, Archie Comics, and Graphic India.
The film will be available on Netflix on December 7.

The premiere of the Netflix film 'The Archies' was held in Mumbai on Tuesday night and it was attended by a slew of celebrities.&nbsp;
Shah Rukh Khan and family attended the premiere to support Suhana, who will be making her debut with Zoya Akhtar's film.&nbsp;
At the event, SRK gave a huge shoutout to daughter's film as he arrived wearing an Archies t-shirt.
Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek, Aishwarya and Aardhya also turned up to support Agastya Nanda.&nbsp;
Janhvi Kapoor and Boney Kapoor attended to premiere as well to cheer for Khushi.&nbsp;

It took off from Delhi airport at 2:40 pm and landed at Manohar International Airport, Goa at 5:15 pm on November 24. &nbsp; The special flight was organised to give passengers a glimpse into the world of Archies and fly them to Riverdale. The flight had retro-themed d&eacute;cor, specially curated meals and beverages. Some giveaways by Netflix and Vistara were also arranged for the lucky fans. Passengers also had the chance to interact with the film's cast, including Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Agastya Nanda, Aditi Saigal, Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, and Yuvraj Menda.&nbsp; Shilpa Singh, Senior Director, Marketing Partnerships - APAC, at Netflix said in a statement, "The Archies celebrates all things food, fashion and music from the 1960s. Filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, who are gearing up for the release of their film &lsquo;The Archies&rsquo;, said that the media is being hypocritical about the nepotism debate, as it chose to focus on star kids-Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, and Khushi Kapoor- while ignoring the other four actors- Dot, Yuvraj Menda, Mihir Ahuja and Vedang Raina.
In an interview with Film Companion, Zoya said, &lsquo;This is my fifth film, this is not my first rodeo. You&rsquo;ve seen my work, and I cast to what I think will work for the film, and will work for when you&rsquo;re doing a theatrical for your budget. You have to balance it out. This was a Netflix film, I had no pressure. I could&rsquo;ve cast anybody, and honestly, I didn&rsquo;t need to do anything for once&rsquo;.
Crticising the media, she continued, &lsquo;What I find fascinating is this, there were seven kids on that poster. Netflix and Tiger Baby put seven kids on that poster, and the media only spoke about three, and then turns around and tells us about nepotism. Actually, you&rsquo;re the one not giving the other four attention. You robbed their moment, that&rsquo;s just heartbreaking to see. You took away their moment, I&rsquo;m sorry, it&rsquo;s your problem.&rsquo;
Reema said, &lsquo;I&rsquo;ve had a lot of people say to me, &lsquo;You&rsquo;ve cast these star-kids&rsquo;, and I tell them, &lsquo;We had seven kids in the trailer, do you know the other four&rsquo;s names? Did you bother to look at them?&rsquo; Because we are very excited about them. What happened was actually quite sad about the other four, and for the three (star-kids).&rsquo;
For those unaware, Agastya Nanda is the grandson of actors Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, and the nephew of Abhishek Bachchan. Suhana Khan is the daughter of Gauri and Shah Rukh Khan. Khushi Kapoor is the younger daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, and the sister of Janhvi Kapoor.
&lsquo;The Archies&rsquo; is an adaptation of the popular comic book series of the same name. The seven actors play the famous gang of teenagers from the comics.

A clip from the forthcoming film is doing the rounds on social media.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's daughter Suhana Khan will soon be making her Bollywood debut with the Netflix film 'The Archies'.
Now, rumours are rife that SRK will make a special appearance in the forthcoming film.
According to Hindustan Times, this project is special to Shah Rukh as it marks Suhana's entry in the industry and he wanted to be a part of it in some way.
A source said that either SRK has a special appearance or he's the narrator in the web film.
&lsquo;He is connected to the project, and it is a special one for him as it marks Suhana&rsquo;s entry in the industry. He wanted to be part of the project in some way, due to which he has a special connection to it,&rsquo; an insider said.
The inside added, &lsquo;He has either a cameo appearance or he is onboard as a narrator in the web film.&rsquo;

The highly anticipated project is based on &lsquo;The Archies&rsquo; comics.

It takes us into Riverdale where teenagers Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Dilton, Ethel, Moose, and others spend their time dancing and romancing. Their life changes when Veronica&rsquo;s father begins to take over the town with his business expansion plans. The gang then teams up to protect their home.
The film marks the debut of Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda, alongside Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, Yuvraj Menda and Aditi Dot.
Two songs of the forthcoming movie have been released&mdash; &lsquo;Va Va Vroom&rsquo; and &lsquo;Sunoh&rsquo;. The songs have been penned by Javed Akhtar.&nbsp;

&lsquo;We were clear that we wanted newcomers because they are such iconic characters and getting anybody who is already very well-known would bring their baggage onto it or their image onto it, good or bad. Also, they (characters) are 17-year-old in the film, so we needed kids that were teenagers,&rsquo; the filmmaker said.
Zoya said when Netflix made her &lsquo;an offer&rsquo; to adapt and set the popular comics in India, she couldn&rsquo;t refuse.&nbsp;
&lsquo;I didn&rsquo;t know what I wanted to do next, they got &lsquo;Archies&rsquo; to me, which is one of our favourite comics, I grew up on this. I was like, &lsquo;How can I take this, retain its essence and make it from India?&rsquo; &lsquo;Since it&rsquo;s a global IP, I need to be able to take something from here and do it in a language that retains its original essence and speaks to kids today. We were excited about that. We have done whatever we wanted to and now we are getting scared, as always,&rsquo; she added.

'The Archies' is the Indian adaptation of the popular Archie Comics. It's set in the Anglo-Indian community at a fictional hill station in India called Riverdale back in 1964.
