Piyush Mishra in his recent interview spoke about why he thinks 'Shamshera' wasn't received well by the audience.&nbsp;

Actor Piyush Mishra, who wrote the dialogues for the film Shamshera, has opened up on the failure of film which was a comeback for Ranbir Kapoor after a gap of four years.&nbsp;
Mishra shared that many thought script of the film was the reason of its failure but according to him, it also had to compete with the &lsquo;revolution in the south.&rsquo; Talking to Hindustan Times, he said &lsquo;I also didn&rsquo;t understand why it didn&rsquo;t work. People said it didn&rsquo;t work due to the script. I think we have already seen fantastic stunts so many times. Now you will have to compete with them, the revolution in South.&rsquo;&nbsp;
He added, &lsquo;Baahubali was not merely CGI, it also had a very solid script. To compete with a Baahubali, you will have to write an equally brilliant script. Pushpa also had a very good script, it wasn&rsquo;t made just like that. Adding CGI is only beneficial when you have a solid script, CGI without script is of no use.&rsquo;&nbsp;
The 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' fame actor also mentioned that he &lsquo;will be more careful in future.&rsquo; He mentioned that for a good script there should be a good screenplay.&nbsp;
'I derive my inspiration only from the screenplay. Dialogues depend on the screenplay. It&rsquo;s not possible to write dialogues for a bad screenplay, at least for me it&rsquo;s not possible,' he said.
The actor will next be seen in &lsquo;Kanjoos Makhichoos&rsquo; that also stars Kunal Kemmu and Shweta Tripathi.&nbsp;

Actor Ranbir Kapoor attended the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah on Wednesday. The actor opened up about the failure of his movie, 'Shamshera', and the continuous failure of Hindi movies at the box office during the &lsquo;In Conversation&rsquo; session at the event.
As quoted by Pinkvilla, addressing 'Shamshera's failure he said, 'It was a big box office disaster, but the biggest mistake I made on Shamshera was that I stuck on a beard; when you&rsquo;re shooting in the heat and you stick on a beard, it&rsquo;s like your face is melting.'
The 'Barfi' actor also mentioned the film the failure of which hurt him the most and said, 'Jagga Jasoos is a film that I produced. It was a passion project. It was directed by Anurag Basu. It was a very heartwarming and sweet idea, but it didn&rsquo;t do well, which really hurt. That&rsquo;s the only film in my career that hurt me.'
Talking about the dismal state of the Hindi film box office, he told Deadline, 'The entire culture of going to a theater for a community viewing of a movie seems like dying, is there only for the big ticket films, but I hope with strong storytelling, and renewed vigor, Indian cinema will come back.'
On the work front, Ranbir Kapoor was last seen in 'Brahmastra' co-starring actor-wife Alia Bhatt and is currently shooting for Luv Rajan's untitled, co-starring Shraddha Kapoor.

Kudos to the actor for making an earnest attempt to get into the skin of the character. However, a poor screenplay, weak storyline, and rough-edged dialogues steal the sheen out of his efforts. Shamshera betrays Ranbir Kapoor on many levels.
Sanjay Dutt has delivered some of the most epic villains on-screen. With Shamshera, he is back in his antagonist avatar. He is evil, ruthless, and cold-hearted. Yet the brute force of Shuddh Singh quickly fizzles down in the waves of repetitions. It has nothing new to offer. His on-screen showdown with Ranbir and the ferocious fights with no mercy too takes a toll after a while and fails to engage audience. Vani Kapoor executes what's offered and looks stunning in most scenes.
Director Karan Malhotra had the best ingredients consisting of canvas, talent, and scale; still the film kills one's appetite. 159 minutes feel like an era! The film gets dragged and the lacklustre storyline further drags the movie's pace.
The film's big promise of a 'never seen before' Ranbir Kapoor fails to do justice to his calibre. It's vital to be talented, hardworking and dedicated but also to make the right script choices. Shamshera doesn't enhance Ranbir Kapoor's talent or hard work or add to his brand equity. And yes, for the Ranbir die-hard fans, this is the first time they will see him playing a double role in the same film. Provided they muster the courage to sit through the movie with the same enthusiasm!

Ranbir was not the first choice for Shamshera? 
The actor revealed that he was initially offered the role of only Balli as director Karan Malhotra and producer Aditya Chopra were not convinced that he could play both the father and son.

‘Shamshera’ was a challenging film 
Ranbir confessed that 'Shamshera' has been a challenging film for him not just physically but also mentally. The one thing he felt he lacked as an actor was angst. Ranbir said that he's a fun-loving guy and not an angry person.
Giving credit to director Karan Malhotra, he said he wouldn't have managed to pull off the role without his direction and confidence.
"The emotions were up there. I was talking to God and saying, ‘I am working hard. Give it back to me’. I went through those days and I am glad I did. Without a director like Karan, I would not have been able to do this (role)," he said.
Ranbir added that 'Shamshera' is a step forward to doing larger-than-life characters.
Physical transformation
In a video released by the makers of the film, Ranbir Kapoor mentioned that there was a particular body shape and presentation that Karan clearly wanted from his character. He stated that this film was toughest for him physically as it's easy for him to lose weight but putting it on is harder.    
'Shamshera is a period drama, so there was a particular body shape and presentation that Karan very clearly wanted from this part. Physically, this film has been, by far, the toughest film for me because I am a very thin guy; that’s my genetic build. So, losing weight is very easy for me but putting it on is harder. It was tough physically and mentally while playing two characters and trying to match Karan’s imagination and his vision of them. It has definitely been the toughest film of my career,' he said. 
Rishi warned it wouldn’t be an easy ride
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ranbir revealed that his father Rishi Kapoor had warned him about director Karan Malhotra’s methods. He told him that Karan is a hard taskmaster and demands multiple takes.
Rishi had worked with Karan in ‘Agneepath’ remake, and had portrayed the role of villainous Rauf Lala.
Ranbir further added that working on this film was a nightmare as they were all covered in dust and shooting in peak summer in Mumbai wearing woollen clothes.
2.5 hours to get into the main look
Ranbir confessed that it used to take him 2.5 hours every day to get into the main look. However, the real makeup and hair used to happen on sets when Karan used to throw a pile of dust on his face.
Trained for horse riding
The actor trained for a month for horse riding before the principal photography. He is now confident that he can ride a horse in any terrain.

Ranbir was not the first choice for Shamshera?&nbsp;
The actor revealed that he was initially offered the role of only Balli as director Karan Malhotra and producer Aditya Chopra were not convinced that he could play both the father and son.

Recently, the makers of the film released a behind-the-scenes video of the period drama in which the actors are seen talking about their action scenes. Ranbir, who portrayed the role of Sanjay Dutt in the latter's biopic, titled 'Sanju,' said that it was 'incredible' working with him.
'It’s amazing that Sanjay Dutt is my antagonist! When I was 10 or 11, I had Sanjay Dutt’s poster in my cupboard. Then eventually getting to play him in a biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani was a dream come true. And finally getting an opportunity to work with him, to act with him, where I am the protagonist and he is the antagonist, it’s incredible!,' he said.
He added that Sanjay with his brilliant acting, has given us some epic villains. 
'Sanjay Dutt has given us some epic villains with his brilliant acting performances and people are going to love him as Shuddh Singh in Shamshera!,' said Ranbir. 
Director Karan Malhotra, who likes celebrating his hero and villain onscreen, revealed how Sanjay was 'cautious' while dealing with Ranbir in the action scenes. 'He would keep saying, 'beta ye karunga to isko lag na jaaye (He might get hurt if I do this),' Karan disclosed. 
He mentioned that Ranbir too was apprehensive about the same. 'Wo Sanjay Dutt hain yaar, kaise karunga mai (he is Sanjay Dutt, how will I do this?),' Ranbir had told Karan.
The director further said that Ranbir-Sanjay combination will be 'magical onscreen.'

Referring to the famous dialogue for his 2013 film 'Yeh Jawani hai Deewani,' in which the actor said that marriage is like 'dal chawal for pachaas saal till you die.
