In a statement, 42-year-old Venus said that she is very excited to return to Melbourne and expecting a good reception from Australians given they always supported her wholeheartedly.

The Australian Open is one of the biggest titles that eludes Venus as she is gearing up for her 22nd appearance at the Rod Laver Arena.&nbsp;
The seven-time grand slam champion reached the final of the Australian Open twice, in 2003 and 2017 and on both occasions she lost to her younger sister Serena.
With Serena 'evolving away' from tennis after the 2022 US Open, Venus will be eyeing yet another superb show at the Australian Open, which starts on January 16.
Venus made her Australian Open debut as a 16-year-old in 1997 and as of now, she holds a 54-31 win-less record in Melbourne, reaching the quarter-finals at least nine times.

While a lot of footballers hung their boots this year, some decided to only retire from international football.&nbsp;
French ace Karim Benzema, 35 who could not take part in the World Cup due to his injury decided to end his international career. He announced his international retirement soon after his side lost the World Cup final to Argentina after a tough fight in a mouthwatering final. Apart from Benzema, Spain's Sergio Busquets, and Belgium captain Eden Hazard also announced their international retirement.
Gerard Pique &amp; Blaise Matuidi were the two footballers who retired from the sport. The multi-trophy winner, Pique played his last match at Camp Nou, which was also his 616th appearance for Barcelona. Matuidi, 35, who had helped France win the World Cup in 2018 decided to call it a day after he did not find any takers this year. Apart from them Argentina&rsquo;s Carlos Tevez; England&rsquo;s Jermain Defoe, Mark Noble and Jack Wilshere; Belgian footballer Mousa Dembele also decided to call it a day.

"I did wake up the other day and went on the court and considered for the first time in my life that I'm not playing for a competition, and it felt really weird. It was like the first day of the rest of my life and I'm enjoying it, but I'm still trying to find that balance," added the 41-year-old.
Though Serena didn't officially announce her retirement but when Roger Federer played his last competitive event at the Laver Cup earlier in September, she had welcomed him to the retirement club.

It is one of the three offers that Roman Abramovich, the club's owner is considering. The other 2 offers are being made by Todd Boehly, the part-owner of LA Dodgers, and Steve Pagliuca the co-owner of Boston Celtics. Williams and Hamilton have reportedly pledged £20 million in the bid for over £200 million. The former Liverpool FC and British Airways chairman, Broughton's bid partners also includes World Athletics President, Sebastian Coe, the owner of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team, Josh Harris, and David Blitzer. A spokesperson for Hamilton has confirmed the development.
