Serena Williams retirement: World praises the ‘Greatest of all time’

Serena Williams, the legendary Tennis queen has called it quits. From 1995 to 2022, her illustrious professional Tennis career finally came to an end on Saturday after she suffered a heartbreak in the 3rd round of the US Open.

Her legacy is an inspiration to many, and the world came together to laud the 23-time Grand Slam Champion who is ready to ‘explore a different version of Serena’ now. From the former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama to legendary sporting icons like Lebron James & Tiger Woods, tributes flooded from all corners as they congratulated Serena on her glorious career.

Michelle Obama tweeted 'How lucky were we to be able to watch a young girl from Compton grow up to become one of the greatest athletes of all time.'

Calling the 40-year-old the ‘greatest’, ace American golfer Tiger Woods thanked Serena for inspiring everyone to pursue their dreams. ‘I love you little sis!!!!!!', Woods added.

In his Instagram story, Rafael Nadal who has shared stage with Williams on several occasions posted, 'Thanks Serena Williams for everything you've done for our sport!!! Amazing champion'

Former World No. 1 & US Open winner Andy Roddick too took to Twitter to congratulate the Tennis legend and said, ‘It's been the pleasure of a lifetime to watch you become what you have. Can't wait to see that you do next’

Nike, the American apparel brand also posted a nostalgic lookback video, paying tribute to their brand ambassador’s amazing Tennis journey.
