'The chances of a return are very high': Serena Williams shuts down retirement speculations

Serena Williams put her retirement speculations to rest and stated that she has "not retired" from tennis and that the chances of a return are "very high".

Serena had indicated that she would evolve away from the sport following the 2022 US Open, where she crashed out in the third round. But during a conference in San Francisco, the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion said that she still hasn't really thought about retirement.

"I did wake up the other day and went on the court and considered for the first time in my life that I'm not playing for a competition, and it felt really weird. It was like the first day of the rest of my life and I'm enjoying it, but I'm still trying to find that balance," added the 41-year-old.

Though Serena didn't officially announce her retirement but when Roger Federer played his last competitive event at the Laver Cup earlier in September, she had welcomed him to the retirement club.
