Veteran Tennis star Venus Williams gets wild-card entry into Australia Open 2023

The eldest of the Williams sister, Venus, will be back at the Rod Laver Area for the 2023 edition of the Australian Open after she got a wild-card entry for the year's first grand slam tournament.

In a statement, 42-year-old Venus said that she is very excited to return to Melbourne and expecting a good reception from Australians given they always supported her wholeheartedly.

The Australian Open is one of the biggest titles that eludes Venus as she is gearing up for her 22nd appearance at the Rod Laver Arena.

The seven-time grand slam champion reached the final of the Australian Open twice, in 2003 and 2017 and on both occasions she lost to her younger sister Serena.

With Serena 'evolving away' from tennis after the 2022 US Open, Venus will be eyeing yet another superb show at the Australian Open, which starts on January 16.

Venus made her Australian Open debut as a 16-year-old in 1997 and as of now, she holds a 54-31 win-less record in Melbourne, reaching the quarter-finals at least nine times.
