Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday congratulated the Indian armed forces for carrying out missile strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
Retaliating against the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces early Wednesday carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke.
Dhami said in a post that it was India's retaliation against "Atankistan", a reference to Pakistan.

A strict land law came into force in Uttarakhand on Thursday with Governor Lt. Gen Gurmeet Singh (retd.) giving his approval to the legislation, which bans the uncontrolled sale of agricultural and horticultural land.
The Uttarakhand (Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Destruction and Land Reforms Act, 1950) (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was passed by the assembly during the budget session in February.
Taking to social media, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said with the implementation of the law, the uncontrolled sale of agricultural and horticultural land in Uttarakhand has been completely banned in accordance with public sentiment.

He said even for needs like residential, education, hospital, hotel, industry, people of other states will be able to buy land in Uttarakhand only after going through a prescribed process.
With the implementation of a strict land law, efforts to change the demography of the state can also be foiled, he said.
Dhami thanked the governor for approving the new land law which will strengthen the cultural and social identity of the state.
He also said continuous action is also being taken against those who violate the provisions of the previously implemented land act. He said a comprehensive campaign is being run and such lands are being vested in the state government.&nbsp;

In preparation for the pilgrimage, Uttarakhand Director General of Police Deepam Seth on Tuesday said that all security and logistical arrangements were in place.
He informed that around 6,000 policemen along with 17 Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) companies would be deployed for smooth and safe conduct of the Yatra. Drone surveillance will also be used to monitor the pilgrim routes and ensure crowd control.
Meanwhile, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has intensified its preparations for the next phase of the pilgrimage.
The doors of Shri Kedarnath Dham are scheduled to open on May 2, followed by Shri Badrinath Dham on May 4. Shri Madmaheshwar temple, the second Kedar, will open on May 21, and Shri Tungnath, the third Kedar, will open on May 2.
Elsewhere in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, lakhs of devotees gathered in Vrindavan on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya for a rare glimpse of Lord Banke Bihari&rsquo;s feet &mdash; an annual event that draws pilgrims from far and wide.
Senior administrative and police officials, including DIG Shailesh Pandey, District Magistrate Chandraprakash, and SSP Shlok Kumar, reviewed crowd management and security measures in the temple area.
Akshaya Tritiya, a deeply revered day in Hindu and Jain traditions, symbolizes prosperity, fortune, and success. The day is widely celebrated through prayers, charitable acts, and spiritual activities.&nbsp;
Considered ideal for beginning new ventures or making investments, Akshaya Tritiya is associated with the belief that acts of goodness initiated today bring lasting blessings.&nbsp;
According to Hindu scriptures, this day also marks the beginning of the Treta Yuga and the conclusion of the Dwapar Yuga, and is said to be astrologically significant with both the sun and moon in their most auspicious alignment.

The meeting took place at the Chief Minister&rsquo;s official residence, where they discussed various aspects of Uttarakhand's rich culture, traditions, and tourism potential. During the interaction, CM Dhami invited the content creators to embark on the Char Dham Yatra.&nbsp;

Earlier, CM Dhami also held a public meeting at Mukhya Sevak Sadan, where people from different parts of the state voiced their concerns. Addressing the issues raised by the residents, including those related to electricity, water, roads, encroachment, land matters, and financial assistance, CM Dhami directed the concerned officials to take immediate action.&nbsp;
In a post on X, he said, "In the public meeting programme organised at the Mukhya Sevak Sadan, after listening to the problems of people who came from different areas of the state, instructions were given to the officials to take action as per the rules." The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is prioritizing public service and ensuring timely resolution of all cases.
In another significant development, CM Dhami flagged off 20 new fire tenders and vehicles for Uttarakhand Fire Service as part of Fire Service Week celebrations at Police Line, Dehradun. He also honored seven firefighters who won medals at the Third All India Fire Service Games and two others who received the DGFS Disc Medal from the Home Ministry.&nbsp;

In a significant move to strengthen border economies and enhance local livelihoods, the Uttarakhand Animal Husbandry Department has partnered directly with local livestock farmers through the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Since the implementation of this initiative, 253 farmers from four border districts&mdash;Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, and Champawat&mdash;have generated business worth Rs 2.6 crore within the first five months.
Previously, ITBP battalions stationed in these districts relied on urban markets for their supply of mutton, chicken, and fish. This new scheme, officially contracted on October 30, has allowed farmers from 10 cooperative societies and farmer producer organizations (FPOs) to directly supply fresh livestock to nearby ITBP units. Between the launch and March, farmers delivered a total of 79,530 kg of fresh produce, including 42,748 kg of live sheep and goats, 29,407 kg of chicken, and 7,374 kg of trout fish.
CM Dhami noted, "This scheme has yielded very positive results, with an increase in the income of farmers on the border, which will also reduce migration to the villages." He added that the government will work closely with the ITBP to further strengthen the defence line of the country, ensuring the supply of fresh food to personnel stationed in remote regions.
In a separate event, CM Dhami flagged off 20 new fire tenders and emergency vehicles as part of the Uttarakhand Fire Service's efforts to enhance public safety. The event, held at Police Line in Dehradun during Fire Service Week, saw the Chief Minister honouring seven firefighters who earned medals at the Third All India Fire Service Games, as well as two recipients of the DGFS Disc Medal from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Chief Minister also announced future plans to bolster the fire department's infrastructure. &ldquo;New fire stations will be opened soon in Bhimtal, Dwarahat, Gauchar, Purola, and Sahastradhara,&rdquo; he said. He further revealed plans to establish a world-class training centre for fire services in Uttarakhand and declared a Rs 10,000 incentive for all fire personnel who served during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

The event took place at BHEL Ground in Haridwar on the 135th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the massive public turnout indicates that people have shown trust in this bold decision.
He stressed that the honour was for the ideology advocating justice and equality in Indian society. In his address, CM Dhami described Baba Saheb as a visionary.
He said Dr Ambedkar believed that true equality in society is not possible until every citizen of the country is granted equal rights. This belief inspired the UCC's inclusion in the Constitution. Dhami clarified that implementing the UCC is a major step towards social justice. 
The Chief Minister clarified that the Uttarakhand government has not just implemented a law, but has taken a major step toward social justice and equality.
CM Dhami emphasised that Dr. Ambedkar's ideas were neglected for years, and his ideas were sidelined.
Today's India, he noted, is moving towards realising Ambedkar's dreams. &ldquo;This is a new India &mdash; one that not only respects its heritage but also sets new standards by making bold decisions,&rdquo; he said.
The CM said that the crowd gathered in Haridwar is not just a gathering of people but a public voice trusting his decisions, and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his guidance.
CM Dhami also announced the construction of the Baba Saheb Samrasata Sthal in Haridwar which aims to educate future generations about the lives of social reformers and the Indian Constitution.
Multipurpose buildings will also be constructed in areas with a dominant Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes population. Additionally, special awareness programs will be organised in schools and colleges through the Scheduled Caste Commission to inform the younger generation about welfare schemes and rights related to the Scheduled communities.&nbsp;

He further credited the central government&rsquo;s leadership for the progress, saying, &ldquo;Under the leadership of the respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodiji, Devbhoomi is now running on the track of development, every station, every tunnel and every bridge of this project is making the dream of railway on the mountains come true.&rdquo;
Spanning a total of 125 kilometers, the rail project will feature 16 tunnels and 12 stations. Rail authorities confirmed that the Karnaprayag station is being constructed in Sewai, and a 6.3-kilometre escape tunnel from Bhattnagar to Sewai in Gauchar was broken through on December 25.
In another engagement, CM Dhami attended the Pratibha Samman Samaroh-2025 at Saraswati Vidya Mandir Inter College in Haridwar on Thursday. During the event, he inaugurated a newly constructed school building and a smart classroom equipped with modern educational tools.
The event aimed to honor academic excellence and the dedication of educators. Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami said, &ldquo;When the country was standing on its feet after independence, keeping in mind the spirit of nation-building, the Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan, as an affiliate organization of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, planted a sapling in the form of Saraswati Shishu Mandir, which has today become a huge banyan tree and is working to take the country forward by educating our children in every corner of the country.&rdquo;
Highlighting the scale and impact of Vidya Bharati&rsquo;s educational efforts, he added, &ldquo;More than 12 thousand schools are being run by Vidya Bharati in the country, in which more than 35 lakh students are getting education. In the field of higher education, Vidya Bharati runs more than 50 colleges and a university, through which, along with imparting modern education to the students, a sense of national service, morality, culture preservation, natural conservation and responsibility towards society is being developed in them.&rdquo;

Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, CBSE, stated, "The CBSE board exams for Classes 10 and 12 have started. Today, the Class 10 English and Class 12 Entrepreneurship exams were held. The Class 10 exam took place at 7,780 centers, with over 23.86 lakh students appearing, while the Class 12 exam was conducted at 995 centers with around 23,000 students. Describing it as an "unforgettable moment", Dhami said he gained a unique experience of spiritual purity and divinity after bathing in the holy waters at the confluence of the three ancient rivers. &nbsp; &nbsp; According to an official statement, Dhami also spoke about the preparations for the 2027 Kumbh in Haridwar, stating that planning is underway to make it as historic and well-organised as the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. Every possible facility would be provided to ensure a grand and divine experience for the devotees, the chief minister assured. &nbsp; &nbsp; "Maha Kumbh has been connecting crores of people with religion and culture through the spiritual and cultural importance of Sanatan Dharma, maintaining its integrity for centuries. It is not only a symbol of spiritual consciousness but also of national unity, integrity and universal brotherhood which inspires humanity towards moral values and world welfare," Dhami said.
In a separate post, the chief minister shared the experience of taking his mother for a holy dip in the Sangam, saying he was short of words to describe it.
&nbsp;"Today, I had the good fortune of taking my mother for a dip in the holy waters of Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. It was one of those priceless and emotional moments in my life that cannot be put into words. It will forever remain etched my heart," Dhami said. &nbsp; &nbsp; "It is mentioned in the Vedas, scriptures and Puranas that no living being can ever repay the debt of a mother because she is the first source with which our existence is connected. Mother's love is infinite, her affection is immeasurable, and her blessings are inexhaustible," he added.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the fair, he said that self-reliance can be achieved through better use of local resources, promoting agriculture and animal husbandry, which can help stop the continued migration from the hills.
He cited Uttarakhand&rsquo;s potential in the dairy and animal husbandry sectors and spoke about the benefits of goat milk, which is helpful in the treatment of many diseases.

Yogi expressed happiness that goats and poultry were being distributed to the local people through the Kisan fair.
Describing Uttarakhand as the &ldquo;crown jewel&rdquo; of India, he said it is also very important from the perspective of national security.
He appealed to people to work towards making the state drug-free and to make it the best state in the country.
He also praised Pantnagar Agricultural University for making an important contribution to food security by starting the Green Revolution and for setting up many stalls at the fair.
CM Adityanath inaugurated a 100-foot-high tricolor flag and the fair at a nearby park named after his late father, Anand Singh Bisht.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami honored cycling champions at the Sports Stadium velodrome in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar, recognizing their outstanding achievements at the 38th National Games.&nbsp;
He presented medals to the winners and congratulated them for their dedication and success.
On Thursday, CM Dhami attended the track cycling competition at the Shivalik Velodrome within the Manoj Sarkar Sports Stadium, where he observed the event from the gallery and interacted with the athletes.&nbsp;
Later, he awarded medals and a traditional Pahadi cap to the winners of the men's 4000-metre team pursuit event. The gold medal was secured by the Services Sports Control Board, Punjab claimed the silver, and Rajasthan took home the bronze.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 38th National Games in Dehradun on January 28.&nbsp;
"About 20,000 people are contributing directly and indirectly to the smooth conduct of this prestigious national event," he stated.&nbsp;
He also emphasized his active involvement in monitoring the games, personally visiting venues and ensuring that officials provide athletes with the best possible facilities.
CM Dhami expressed pride in the improving performance of Uttarakhand&rsquo;s athletes, who have won 33 medals so far across various sports. He noted that visiting athletes have praised the world-class velodrome and infrastructure.&nbsp;
"Multi-purpose sports halls have been built in several parts of the state. The Malkhamb competition will take place in Chakarpur, Khatima, while the rafting competition is scheduled in Tanakpur. In total, sports competitions are being held at 11 different locations across Uttarakhand," he added.
He further stated that hosting the National Games in Uttarakhand will serve as a motivation for young athletes, encouraging them to pursue sports as a career. "These games were inaugurated by the Prime Minister and will conclude with the presence of Home Minister Shri Amit Shah in Haldwani on February 14," he said.
Later, the Chief Minister visited the 46th Battalion PAC, where he formally inaugurated the shotgun and skeet shooting competition by cutting the ribbon and performing a puja ceremony.

Sharing the announcement on X, CM Dhami stated, "Dear residents of the state, The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in the state from January 27, 2025, making Uttarakhand the first state in independent India where this law will come into effect. All the necessary preparations have been completed to implement UCC, which includes approval of the rules of the Act and training of the concerned officials. UCC will bring uniformity in the society and ensure equal rights and responsibilities for all citizens. Uniform Civil Code is just an offering made by our state in the great yagya being done by the Prime Minister to make the country a developed, organized, harmonious and self-reliant nation. Under the Uniform Civil Code, an attempt has been made to bring uniformity in all laws relating to personal civil matters that discriminate on the basis of caste, religion, sex etc."
In an interaction with ANI, CM Dhami explained that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is fulfilling a key promise made during the 2022 assembly elections. He cited Article 44 of the Indian Constitution, which encourages the government to secure a uniform civil code throughout the country.&nbsp;
&ldquo;During the 2022 assembly election which we contested under the leadership of PM Modi, we promised the people of the state that we will work to implement the UCC after forming the government. We have fulfilled all the formalities and the Act (UCC) is now ready to be implemented. Uttarakhand has become the first state to bring the UCC &ndash; where there will be no discrimination based on gender, caste, or religion &ndash; and we are bringing the UCC mentioned under Article 44 of the Constitution on January 27,&rdquo; CM Dhami said.
The Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code Act, 2024, establishes a standardized framework for personal civil laws, including marriage, divorce, succession, and inheritance.&nbsp;
The Act applies to all residents of Uttarakhand, including those living outside the state, but excludes Scheduled Tribes and communities protected by empowered authorities.
Under the new provisions, marriages can only occur if neither party has a living spouse, both individuals are mentally capable of consent, the man is at least 21 years old, and the woman is at least 18.&nbsp;
Marriages can be solemnized according to religious customs or legal provisions but must be registered within 60 days of the Act's implementation. For marriages solemnized before March 26, 2010, or outside Uttarakhand, registration is optional but recommended and must be completed within six months of the Act coming into force if both parties meet the legal criteria.
The government has also set guidelines for prompt processing of marriage registrations, with sub-registrars required to issue decisions within 15 days of receiving applications. The move aims to simplify and standardize legal procedures, ensuring equitable treatment under personal laws.
