A probe by the Uttarakhand health department has found that at least 1 lakh Covid test reports issued during the Kumbh Mela were fake. The Times of India, which has accessed the 1,600 page report, has reported that the test reports were forged by a private agency.
In one instance, a single phone number was used to register over 50 people while one antigen test kit, which is meant for single use, was shown to have tested 700 samples, the report said.
Covid negative reports were issued under fictional names and addresses. Almost 530 samples were taken from &lsquo;House Number 5&rsquo; in Haridwar, the TOI report has quoted an an official as saying.
Further, 200 sample collectors employed by the private agency turned out to be students in Rajasthan who never visited Haridwar during the period, the report added. Officials have said that two labs are also under the scanner for the fraud.

In complete violation of Covid&nbsp;norms, massive crowds were seen at the Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar&nbsp;on Sunday for the 'Shahi Snan',&nbsp;part of the ongoing Maha Kumbh. Most people were seen without masks or adhering to social distancing protocols.&nbsp;
During random testing at Har Ki Pauri on Sunday, at least nine individuals were found positive for <a href="https://www.editorji.com/covid-19" target="_blank">Covid-19</a>.&nbsp;Haridwar in Uttarakhand reported 372 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 on Sunday less than 24 hours before the second 'Shahi Snan' in the holy city.&nbsp;
Uttarakhand now has 7,323 active cases of Covid-19, taking the state's total to 1,08,812 confirmed cases and 1,760 deaths so far.

On the occasion of Maha Shivratri, devotees at the Kumbh Mela took the first auspicious 'Shahi Snan' in the Ganga river in Haridwar in the early hours of Thursday.
Scores of devotees dotted the Har Ki Pauri ghat of the river for the ritual.
Special arrangements have been made to ensure surveillance, including CCTV cameras and drones. The bathing time for the Akharas is from 8 am to 5 pm.
