Kumbh Mela turns into 'super spreader': 1,701 people test COVID+ between April 10-14

In just five days, between April 10th to 14th, 1,701 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Kumbh Mela area in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar.

Haridwar Chief Medical Officer Shambhu Kumar Jha on Thursday said that the numbers include both RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test reports of devotees as well as seers.

Kumbh Mela, which is said to be one of the world's largest religious gatherings, is adding to the case numbers and is fast turning into a super spreader.

At a time when the Centre and state governments are coming up with measures to tackle the new wave of COVID-19 pandemic, Kumbh officials have said that there is no plan to cut short the event.
