Ira Khan, daughter of Aamir Khan and his first wife Reena Dutta, has often talked about her mental health. Recently, she said that she blames herself for her depression, and added that her depression is also 'partly genetic'.
In an interview with ETimes, Ira mentioned the divorce of her parents is one of the triggers of her depression. She said that though the divorce was &lsquo;amicable&rsquo;, it did leave an impact on her mental health.
Ira said because her parents made her believe that getting divorced &lsquo;was not a big deal&rsquo;, she formed some perceptions in her head but never discussed them with anyone.
She believed that one has to be sad to receive love from others. But now, Ira aims to be happy in life and for that, she has to &lsquo;systematically undo&rsquo; everything she has done until now.
Ira also shared that her fiance, Nupur Shikhare is one of her strongest support systems and she thinks she is &lsquo;lucky&rsquo; to have him in her life. Ira and Nupur got engaged in 2022.
Ira Khan recently launched the Agastu Foundation in an attempt to provide mental health support.

Ira said that it would be silly to say that growing up in the family she grew up in, did not affect her state of mind.
She said in some ways, it has helped, and in some ways been unhelpful.
Ira also opened up about a phase when she was diagnosed with clinical depression.
She said that she had the financial resources for effective treatment and people who cared about her, but the &lsquo;depression and fear crippled&rsquo; her.
She then went on to form the foundation Agastu in 2021 to help others who face a similar kind of fear, but did &lsquo;absolutely nothing for a year and a half.&rsquo;
Ira had a depressive episode in July 2022.
She revealed cyclical means every few months, there is a big dip for her.
Usually, the dip lasts two weeks, then she does something which helps her. Ira finally joined Agastu in December last year.

&lsquo;Even though my family has been very supportive, they didn&rsquo;t necessarily know how to support me. I needed to articulate it for them. It took efforts from my end their end, to develop communication. It is really difficult to see someone you love, struggle, go through the pain. You start freaking out, you want their problem to be fixed right now, and then you wonder did you do enough. Thus the family goes into their own spiral, as they believe they were not helpful for their person struggling,&rsquo; she said.
