As per the findings, children who ate five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day had the best mental health ratings. Researchers also found that children who ate a healthy breakfast and lunch experienced better well-being over those who only had a snack or drink.

According to the study, a &lsquo;bad&rsquo; or &lsquo;unhealthy&rsquo; diet was one comprising &ldquo;low fruit and vegetable intake, no fish, and lots of red meat, especially processed meat.&rdquo; The results suggested that the participants who engaged in high levels of physical activity while practicing a healthy diet had the lowest risks of death compared to their counterparts who were not only physically inactive but also had poor diets. Lead researcher of the study Melody Ding claimed that while many people may think that they could offset the impacts of a poor diet with high levels of exercise or offset the impacts of low physical activity with a high-quality diet, data has shown that this is not the case. Long story short, the study suggested exercise and a good diet go hand in hand, and balance is the key to a healthy life!

According to a recent UN report, the number of undernourished people in India declined by 60 million in over a decade. It reduced from 249.4 million (21.7 per cent) in 2004-06 to 189.2 million (14 per cent) in 2017-19.&nbsp;
However, there was a rise in the obesity level as more Indian adults have grown obese between 2012-19 (from 3.1 per cent to 3.9 per cent).&nbsp;
Globally, the number of people affected by hunger rose to 828 million in 2021, an increase of about 46 million since the outbreak of the pandemic, the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2022 report suggested.&nbsp;
The report also added that people who were unable to afford a healthy diet touched 973.3 million in 2020 up from 948.6 million in 2019. &nbsp;Almost 3.1 billion people could not afford a healthy diet in 2020, reflecting the effects of inflation in consumer food prices and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.&nbsp;

Published by Nutritional Neuroscience, the research included 8,953 participants. The team analysed the association between diet and the risk of both severe headaches as well as migraines.&nbsp;
The findings showed that mild, moderate and severe malnutrition were associated with participants experiencing more frequent and intense headaches.
Researchers also concluded that the diet of severe headaches and migraine sufferers lacked vitamins and nutrients.&nbsp;

A recent study suggests that intermittent fasting technique can have a significant effect on women&rsquo;s hormones.&nbsp;

Intermittent fasting is one of the most sought-after dieting regimes followed by many urban fitness enthusiasts these days. Though people find it beneficial in losing weight, a recent study has found that this fasting technique has significant effects on women&rsquo;s hormones.
The researchers conducted the study for eight weeks on a group of pre and post-menopausal obese women, using the "warrior diet" technique. They were divided into two groups where one followed four-six hours window each day to eat without counting calories. Whereas, the other group did not follow any dietary restrictions.
Researchers then measured the differences in hormone levels using data from blood samples from both groups. They found that besides losing 3-4 % weight, the dieting group had a noticeable dip in oxidative stress biomarkers and insulin resistance as compared to the group which did not follow the diet.

The science of food can be pretty intimidating with numerous studies and claims coming up every day. In a bid to solve this conundrum, scientists have&nbsp;developed a &lsquo;Food Compass&rsquo; that scores over 8,000 foods based on their overall healthfulness and drawbacks.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Raspberries took the top spot with a perfect 100 score. The high&nbsp;rankers&nbsp;were fruits with an average score of 73.9, vegetables at 69.1 and legumes, nuts, and seeds, got&nbsp;an average score of 78.6.&nbsp;While the&nbsp;lowest-scoring category was snacks and sweet desserts with an average score of 16.4.

Published in the journal Nature, the study also assessed complete foods like a pizza or a burger and had some intriguing findings. For example, it was found that&nbsp;a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with white bread had a very similar score as a grilled cheese sandwich with whole wheat bread.&nbsp;Similarly, a thick crust, extra meat pizza scored 6 points higher than&nbsp;corn flakes cereal.&nbsp;
The team says this is the first consistent food profiling system and&nbsp;can help in comparing combinations of food and beverages for a person&rsquo;s daily diet pattern, or perhaps a portfolio of foods sold by a particular company.

Examining 8,600 participants aged 25 to 91, the team found that&nbsp;people who ate at least 470 grams of fruit and vegetables daily had 10 per cent lower stress levels than those who consumed less than 230 grams.
Lead author of the study, published in the journal Clinical Nutrition, explained that long-term and unmanaged stress can lead to a range of health problems including heart disease, diabetes, depression and anxiety so there is a need to find ways to prevent and possibly alleviate mental health problems in the future,.
The study notes that while the mechanics of how food is linked to our mood are unclear,&nbsp;nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, flavonoids and carotenoids&nbsp;present in fruit and vegetables, can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, and that might be helping improve our mental well being.
