Taking to Instagram on September 9, Ayan posted a video comprising of scenes from &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo;. The words on the video read, "On 9th Sept 2022 we introduced you to a world of astras. Celebrating 1 year of Brahmastra. Brahmastra part two and three development in progress." Sharing the video, he wrote, "Happy 1st Birthday, Brahmāstra! Thank you for all the Creativity, all the HardWork, and for all the Lessons in Film-making, and in life! P.S.: Will share some early artwork from the next stage of the Brahmāstra journey in a bit&hellip;!
Filmmaker Karan Johar also shared a clip on Instagram. While sharing the video, he wrote, "Today we mark and celebrate one year of this labour of love. Truly, one experience&hellip;.one journey&hellip;.one story that is told with the heart and soul. An army of people giving in their best to showcase nothing short of magic on the big screen. The power of love &amp; light will continue to shine bright!!! #brahmastra."

Sharing the timeline of the second and third installments, Ayan Mukerji mentioned that &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo; part two will release in December 2026 and &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo; part three will release in December 2027.&nbsp;

Director Ayan Mukerji, whose film &lsquo;Brahmastra Part One: Shiva&rsquo; had a successful theatrical run last year, has shared when he plans to release the second and third instalments of the franchise. Taking to social media, he mentioned that &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo; 2 and 3 will be bigger and more ambitious than part one, but they need a little time to perfect the scripts of the forthcoming movies.
He added that he has decided to release both the films closer together, Sharing the timeline, he mentioned that &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo; part two will release in December 2026 and &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo; part three will release in December 2027.

When asked about whether she sees the success of &lsquo;Pathaan&rsquo;, &lsquo;Gangubai Kathiawadi&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo; as an answer to the negativity, Alia said, &lsquo;I don&rsquo;t think we have so much aggression in us like that. We are very grateful to be working and living our dream on a day-to-day basis. And we believe that we belong to the audience and the audience can say whatever they want about us. As long as we are entertaining them we will do our very best.&rsquo;
Speaking about &lsquo;Pathaan&rsquo;, she said, &lsquo;We feel very very happy as an industry that a film like Pathaan is not just a blockbuster but possibly the biggest blockbuster of Indian cinema. I think everybody should definitely clap for that once. We feel grateful for moments like this and pray that yahi hota rahe (this should continue happening).&rsquo;
When a reporter mentioned that &lsquo;Pathaan&rsquo; broke &lsquo;Brahmastra's record, Alia added, &lsquo;Every film should break every film's record. I am very happy with that.&rsquo; Varun also reacted to &lsquo;Pathaan&rsquo;s box office numbers and said one must not pay heed to boycott trends as the film&rsquo;s success is a testament that the audience is only looking for pure entertainment.
He said, &lsquo;I don't want to talk about it. Why should we give so much importance to it? If people are liking it (Pathaan), then be happy. We should not discuss much about it. The collections are speaking about the reach of Indian cinema, of Hindi cinema. And when you have some of the biggest stars of this country in Pathaan, be it Shah Rukh sir, Salman bhai, Deepika Padukone and John, you are giving the audience what they want and that's entertainment.&rsquo;
&lsquo;Pathaan&rsquo;, which marks Shah Rukh Khan&rsquo;s comeback to the big screen after four years, has collected Rs 296 crore at the box office and has breached the Rs 500 crore mark overseas.

2022 has been a rough year for Bollywood with many big-ticket films failing to pull moviegoers to the theatres despite having a good cast. However, a handful of films performed exceptionally well at the ticket booths and revived the industry from the challenging time.
Here are the top five films of the year in terms of net grossing amount:
&lsquo;Brahmāstra&rsquo; The Ayan Mukerji directorial starred Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Mouni Roy among others. The film received mixed reviews from critics and the audience. The fantasy action adventure revolves around Shiva who is on the brink of falling in love with Isha but his life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers he has the power to control fire and a connection to a secret society of guardians. Released on September 9, 2022, the film earned over ₹431 crores worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022.
&lsquo;The Kashmir Files&rsquo; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from the Valley during the 1990s. It starred Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi among others. The film received immense love from the audience as well as the critics. It was released on March 11, 2022, and was declared a commercial hit. It earned around ₹340.92 crores worldwide.
&lsquo;Drishyam 2&rsquo; The crime-thriller, starring Ajay Devgn, Akshaye Khanna, Tabu, Shriya Saran, and Ishita Dutta, is the sequel to the 2015 film &lsquo;Drishyam&rsquo;. The Abhishek Pathak directorial sees a seven-year-old case related to Vijay and his family reopen. A series of unexpected events reveal the truth and threaten to change everything for the Salgaonkars. The film, which was released on November 18, 2022, has made a collection of ₹291.28 crores worldwide.
&lsquo;Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2&rsquo; Directed by Anees Bazmee, the horror-comedy starred Tabu, Kartik Aaryan, and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. The film is the second installment in the &lsquo;Bhool Bhulaiyaa&rsquo; franchise. The film shows how Reet and Ruhan&rsquo;s paths cross and their journey leads to an abandoned mansion that is haunted by a dreaded spirit who has been trapped for 18 years. The film was released in theatres on May 20, 2022, and it earned ₹266.88 crores worldwide.
&lsquo;Gangubai Kathiawadi&rsquo; The biographical drama, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, starred Alia Bhatt in the titular role. The film is loosely based on the true story of Ganga Jagjivandas Kathiawadi, popularly known as Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was documented in the book &lsquo;Mafia Queens of Mumbai&rsquo; written by S. Hussain Zaidi. The film was released in theatres on February 25, 2022. It premiered at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival before its theatrical release. It has earned ₹209.77 crosses globally.

The nominations for the 23rd edition of the International Indian Film Academy and Awards (IIFA) were announced on Monday. &lsquo;Gangubai Kathiawadi&rsquo; and &lsquo;Brahmastra Part One: Shiva&rsquo;, Alia Bhatt's two blockbusters of the year, are leading the nominations for the upcoming award show.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali&rsquo;s &lsquo;Gangubai Kathiawadi&rsquo; received eight nods, including best actor (female) for <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/alia-bhatt-shares-a-message-for-mothers-says-listening-to-your-body-post-delivery-is-key-1671945774563">Alia</a>, best picture, and best director for Bhansali. Besides the best director nod, he is also a contender in the best music director category.
&lsquo;Brahmastra Part One: Shiva&rsquo; will be vying awards in best director, best supporting actor (both male and female), music director, best story (original), best playback singer (both male and female) and best lyrics categories.
The other contenders for best picture trophy are Kartik Aaryan&rsquo;s &lsquo;Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2&rsquo;, Alia&rsquo;s maiden production venture &lsquo;Darlings&rsquo;, &lsquo;Drishyam 2&rsquo; and &lsquo;Vikram Vedha&rsquo;.
&lsquo;Mafia Queens of Mumbai&rsquo; received four nods - best supporting actor (male) for Vijay Raaz, best playback singer (female), best story (adapted) and best lyrics.

Search engine Google has unveiled the top-searched movies of 2022. &lsquo;Brahmastra Part One- Shiva' is the most searched film of the year, leaving behind &lsquo;KGF: Chapter 2&rsquo;, &lsquo;RRR&rsquo;, &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;, and &lsquo;The Kashmir Files&rsquo;, though it wasn&rsquo;t the most commercially successful Indian film of the year. &nbsp;

&lsquo;KGF 2&rsquo;, the highest-grossing Indian film of the year, gains the second spot in the list. It earned approximately Rs 1200 crore. This was followed by Vivek Agnihotri&rsquo;s &lsquo;The Kashmir Files&rsquo;. &nbsp;
The next four spots were taken by the South film industry with &lsquo;RRR&rsquo;, &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;, &lsquo;Pushpa: The Rise&rsquo; and &lsquo;Vikram&rsquo; making it to the list. &nbsp;
South films dominated the chart as just four Hindi films ranked in the top ten while five were from the South. Other Bollywood films that people searced for are Aamir Khan&rsquo;s &lsquo;Laal Singh Chaddha&rsquo; and Ajay Devgn&rsquo;s &lsquo;Drishyam 2&rsquo;. &nbsp;
The only Hollywood film that managed to get a spot in the list of most googled films of 2022 in India is Marvel&rsquo;s &lsquo;Thor: Love and Thunder&rsquo;. &nbsp;

Though, the streamer has not shared the numbers or given any other detail. The Ayan Mukerji directorial, which features Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni, continues to set records as the fans get to watch the film in a language of their choice on the platform. &nbsp;
Gaurav Banerjee, the content head of Disney+ Hotstar &amp; HSM Entertainment Network, Disney Star, said, &lsquo;Brahmastra: Part One&ndash; Shiva has been a game changer in more ways than one. Several big-ticket films such as Aamir Khan&rsquo;s &lsquo;Laal Singh Chaddha&rsquo;, Ranbir Kapoor&rsquo;s &lsquo;Shamshera&rsquo; and Akshay Kumar&rsquo;s &lsquo;Samrat Prithviraj&rsquo;, and small-budget films like Ajay Devgn&rsquo;s &lsquo;Runway 34&rsquo; and Shahid Kapoor&rsquo;s &lsquo;Jersey&rsquo; were totally rejected by the audiences and bombed at the box office. However, there were a few movies that brought some relief to Bollywood. Here's a look at those film that emerged as blockbusters in the post-pandemic era.
Brahmastra The fantasy adventure, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, is the highest-grossing Hindi movie in the post-pandemic era. &lsquo;Brahmastra Part One: Shiva&rsquo;, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is the first part of the trilogy. It collected over Rs 420 crore worldwide.
The Kashmir Files The Vivek Agnihotri directorial is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s. The political drama was the first Hindi release to cross ₹250 crore post-pandemic. The film&rsquo;s total worldwide gross is over Rs 330 crore, thanks to the state-sponsored initiatives of tax-free status and other monetary incentives.
Sooryavanshi Starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, &lsquo;Sooryavanshi&rsquo; was the first major release in the theatres post-pandemic. It released on Diwali 2021. The Rohit Shetty directorial earned over Rs 290 crore worldwide.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 The horror-comedy starred Kartik Aaryan, Tabu, and Kiara Advani. The Anees Bazmee directorial, which was a sequel to Akshay Kumar&rsquo;s &lsquo;Bhool Bhulaiyaa&rsquo;, was a complete entertainer and it collected around Rs 266 crore globally.
Gangubai Kathiawadi The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial was headlined by Alia Bhatt. The film, which was released in February 2022, is the fifth-highest-grossing Hindi film in the post-pandemic era. It earned nearly Rs 210 crore worldwide.
&lsquo;Gangubai Kathiawadi&rsquo; will campaign for BAFTA Awards in all categories, including Best Actress for Alia.

Ayan Mukerji has clarified the reports of Yash playing Dev in 'Brahmastra 2.' The filmmaker has told that the actor has not been approached for the film.

&lsquo;KGF&rsquo; star Yash made headlines recently after reports claiming that he&rsquo;s in talks to star as Dev in &lsquo;Brahmastra 2&rsquo; surfaced online. Now, director Ayan Mukerji in an interview with India Today has clarified these reports. Ayan said that he loves Kannada superstar Yash, but he has not been approached for the role in the film.
&lsquo;I love Yash. It would be great if he plays Dev. No, I am joking,&rsquo; he said.
The filmmaker also addressed rumours that Ranveer Singh is playing Dev in the film and said that while he&rsquo;s come across the rumours, he cannot comment this yet. He said the fun of Dev&rsquo;s story is that it will come at the right time.
Following the release of &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo;, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, there have been many speculations that Ranveer will play Dev in the sequel and these were further fuelled after Film Companion&rsquo;s Anupama Chopra made an accidental slip and revealing that the actor had been roped in.
&lsquo;I hope that the learnings of this film (Brahmastra Part One) enable them (the makers) to make a kickass part two with of course Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone,&rsquo; she said.
Karan Johar also indirectly confirmed Ranveer&rsquo;s role in &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo; in September this year. During an Instagram live, a social media user asked Karan who is Dev in Ayan Mukerji&rsquo;s Astraverse. Karan, who seemingly knew the person, replied, &lsquo;You already have the inside info you don&rsquo;t need to ask who is playing Dev.&rsquo;

In the promotional ad, Ranbir is heard saying, `Nahi bhai hogaya (No, brother, it's over). I'm done. I'm done with Brahmastra promotions, I'm done with Ayan Mukerji. Brahmastra is coming on Disney+ Hostar, which means what? Promotions, more promotions and more promotions? He must do so before the evil forces destroy the pillar of India's heritage. The Abhishek Sharma directorial will clash at the box office with &lsquo;Thank God&rsquo;.
'Doctor G'
The comedy drama, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet Singh, shows the hilarious struggles of Dr. Uday Gupta, who aspired to specialise in Orthopaedic, but is forced to take an all-female class of Gynaecology. This film released in theatres on October 14 and has received a positive response from the audience as well as the critics.
'Brahmastra Part One: Shiva'
The fantasy action-adventure, written and directed by Ayan Mukerji, is inspired from stories in Hindu mythology. It film follows the journey of Shiva, an orphan, who discovers that he has the power to control fire and a connection to a secret society of guardians - Brahmastra. He attempts to prevent the strongest of all astras from falling into the hands of dark forces. The film will reportedly release on Disney+ Hotstar on October 23.
'Laal Singh Chaddha'
Directed by Advait Chandan, this comedy drama stars Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in lead roles. This film is adapted from Oscar winning Hollywood film &lsquo;Forrest Gump&rsquo; starring Tom Hanks. It narrates the extraordinary journey of a simple man with a disability. He meets many friends along the way as he achieves various milestones in life. The film is now streaming on Netflix.
'Kantara'
This action thriller, written and directed by Rishab Shetty, released in theatres on September and has been receiving amazing reviews. It stars Shetty as a Kambala champion, who clashes with Murali, an upright DRFO officer.

Bollywood’s obsession with VFX decoded: What's the way forward for 'Adipurush'?

&lsquo;Adipurush&rsquo; has been facing massive backlash ever since its teaser released. The magnum opus is being called out for poor visual effects &amp; shoddy character design. It will release in January next year.

Prabhas starrer &lsquo;Adipurush&rsquo; has been facing massive backlash on social media ever since its teaser released. The magnum opus is being called out for its poor visual effects and shoddy character design. Following the heavy ridicule, the makers tried to gain control over the situation by organising a special 3D screening of its teaser in Mumbai, which was viewed by select media. Even though it received a positive response, the audience who was unable to watch it, continued to share its critical opinion on the internet, not only for its questionable VFX but also for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
After the release Ayan Mukerji&rsquo;s &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo; and the teaser of &lsquo;Adipurush&rsquo;, we are left wondering if being high on VFX and CGI means comprising other aspects of films.
There are several other projects using high-level visual effects, such as &lsquo;Ram Setu&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Krrish 4&rsquo;, which will release in theatres soon.
Let&rsquo;s take a look at what industry experts have to say about VFX heavy films being under scrutiny and immediate comparisons with global films. According to Hindustan Times report, trade expert Joginder Tuteja says that filmmakers are focusing on VFX nowdays as they wish to do something out-of-the-box to pull audiences to theatres. However, he feels that the audience as well filmmakers go overboard when they discuss film&rsquo;s elements and budget, which in turn creates a pressure on the stakeholders.
&lsquo;Instead, go ahead, make a movie and release it. Do not talk much about the number of days you spent on VFX or money invested in the film. When you keep the expectations in check, the kind of response that will come will also not be as polarised as you see nowadays. You talk so much about it and people start expecting the moon, and when the results are not on the same line, disappointment follows,&rsquo; Hindustan Times quoted him as saying.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan also weighed in on VFX being used as a marketing tool to promote films. He believes &lsquo;content is king, marketing is queen.&rsquo; Citing Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo; as a great example, he said they were the first ones to make a movie that was &lsquo;high on VFX and never had been attempted before in India&rsquo;. &lsquo;There is no harm in using that for marketing. You have seen several movies featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, but VFX was the film&rsquo;s USP,&rsquo; Atul Mohan was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.
Komal Nahta, film critic and trade analyst, feels that debates about VFX is &lsquo;meaningless&rsquo; and there is no harm in promoting a film ahead of its release. He also added that it has become fashionable to criticize and &lsquo;fringe elements create controversies around any and every film&rsquo;. He said &lsquo;social media is full of frustrated people whose full-time work is to run down efforts and money spent&rsquo;.
Talking about the criticism Om Raut&rsquo;s &lsquo;Adipurush&rsquo; has received, Komal Nahta said that &lsquo;if somebody feels the character does not look like Raavan, he/she needs to understand that it&rsquo;s the director&rsquo;s interpretation. He added, &lsquo;You applauded this man (Om Raut) for Tanhaji, and now you are taking the same man to the gallows.&rsquo; So, what&rsquo;s the way forward for &lsquo;Adipurush&rsquo;, starring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon?
An insider working on the film told indianexpress.com that seven-eighth studios are involved in developing the VFX for &lsquo;Adipurush&rsquo;, and the film falls in the &lsquo;conventional bracket of a live action film&rsquo;
Explaining the difference between the two ways to shoot a film, the VFX professional shared, &lsquo;When you are trying to make photoreal creatures, which are done in 3D, the first thing we try to replicate are the movements. How we move in reality is a live action film. Now, if I want to transfer my movement to a 3D creature, that&rsquo;s done by motion capturing. But that&rsquo;s just the animation. Through motion capturing, we cannot replicate the look and feel, the lighting, the texture, the hair and fur of the creature. All these things combined make a believable creature. So, everything has to be spot on.&rsquo;

Actor-producer Riteish Deshmukh recently opened up on the ongoing boycott Bollywood trend and big ticket films failing at the box office. He feels that if the content is good, then a film will remain unaffected by the boycott culture.
Deshmukh, in an interview with ‘Ulfiltered by Samdish’, said that the success of 'Brahmastra' proves that it's the film's content which is determining its fate and not the boycott calls.He said, ‘If the films are not working, we are not giving good enough content. If the films are flopping and there is a boycott trend, we feel they are not working because of the boycott. But then Brahmastra is the answer for you. It faced a boycott trend and still is a blockbuster.’
The actor cited the example of a scene from 2001 film ‘Lagaan’ and said, ‘When it rains at the end of Lagaan, it’s bigger than the cricket match win. It’s the same thing. There was a dry spell. Then came Brahmastra. It rained. It’s great. The same thing is for every industry. There is always a ripple effect to everything and it’s always wonderful. I feel that any success, whether it’s yours or others’, you should be happy and celebrate it.’
Riteish also talked about growing up in his father, former CM of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh’s house and called it a humbling experience. He defined his meaning of success and said, ‘For me, I was just a guy in front of a TV, and now I am inside it with those guys that I love, so that is success.’
On the work front, Riteish Deshmukh was last seen in 'Plan A Plan B' with Tamannaah Bhatia. He will soon feature in 'Mister Mummy' along with wife and actor Genelia. The actor also has ‘Kakuda’ and ‘Visfot’ in the pipeline. He will be seen directing and producing 'Vedd'.
