‘Ponniyin Selvan I’: Mani Ratnam's film becomes 3rd biggest hit of 2022 surpassing ‘Brahmastra’, ‘Vikram’

Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ has become the third-highest grossing Indian film of the year, beating two biggest hits ‘Brahmastra Part One- Shiva’ and ‘Vikram’. The film, which features an ensemble cast, including Jayam Ravi, Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, among many others, has been doing amazing business overseas.

The film reportedly earned Rs 450 crore worldwide as of September 17. Earlier, it was reported that the film crossed Rs 400 crore mark within 12 days of its release. Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra’ earned ₹431 crore globally, and Kamal Haasan-starrer ‘Vikram’ grossed ₹443 crore.

‘KGF: Chapter 2’ has topped the chart with its earning marked at ₹1207 crore, while SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ earned ₹1112 crore worldwide. Entertainment Industry Tracker Ramesh Bala tweeted, ‘Official #PS1 hits 450 Cr mark’. His other tweet stated, ‘Highest collected Indian Movie in USA.’ Ramesh also shared the ‘All-time Top 5 TN Grossers’ list.

Backed by Allirajah Subaskaran's banner Lyca Productions, ‘Ponniyin Selvan-I' released in 5 languages - Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

‘Ponniyin Selvan:1’ has become the second-highest grossing Tamil film. The sequel of the Mani Ratnam directorial was shot simultaneously with part one, and it is set to release next year.
