Ultraslim phones are having their moment again, and the iPhone Air fits right into that comeback story. Apple wasn&rsquo;t the first to go ultra-thin, but it&rsquo;s managed to grab everyone&rsquo;s attention with how refined and light the Air feels.&nbsp;
On paper, it ticks almost every flagship box &mdash; gorgeous looks, a crisp display, and smooth, reliable performance. But at ₹1,19,900, a few trade-offs are hard to miss.&nbsp;
The single rear camera, borrowed straight from the iPhone 16e, feels like a step down for something at this price. And while Apple&rsquo;s chase for thinness makes the phone look stunning, it&rsquo;s also come at the cost of battery life. After swapping my SIM from the iPhone 16 Pro Max and using the Air for over a week and a half, I&rsquo;ve got a clearer picture of who it&rsquo;s built for &mdash; and where Apple&rsquo;s design ambitions start to overreach.
<h2>iPhone Air&rsquo;s refreshing new take on design</h2>
The iPhone Air grabs your attention the second you see it. It&rsquo;s unbelievably thin, the kind of phone that makes you stop and look twice. And, trust me, photos really don&rsquo;t capture how sleek it looks in person. During the week and half that I was testing iy, I was stopped at least 3-4 times by strangers, asking me which phone I was holding. I honestly can&rsquo;t remember the last time an iPhone got that kind of reaction purely because of how it looked.
For something so slim, it feels impressively sturdy. There&rsquo;s a reassuring solidness to it, almost like a small block of metal. The glossy titanium frame gives it a futuristic vibe, and the way it sits in your hand feels very different from any iPhone I&rsquo;ve used before. Apple has gone all out on materials this time, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, a grade-5 titanium frame, and Ceramic Shield glass back.
You also won&rsquo;t have to worry about it bending in your pocket, either. The phone feels tough, and it comes with IP68 protection, so it&rsquo;s safe from dust and water.&nbsp;
The buttons are laid out in the usual Apple way, with the power and camera controls on the right, and the volume and Action buttons on the left.&nbsp;
The speaker grilles and USB-C port sit at the bottom, although the port only supports USB 2.0 speeds.&nbsp;
The only thing missing is a SIM tray. The iPhone Air is Apple&rsquo;s first phone that&rsquo;s fully eSIM-only across all regions.
Then there&rsquo;s the camera plateau. It&rsquo;s pretty thick, considering the rest of the phone, but for a good reason. Apple has tucked most of the key components inside it, including the logic board and camera modules under the plateau. The rest of the phone is left for the battery. The plateau also runs across the width of the phone, which makes it more stable when placed on a table compared to phones like the Galaxy S25 Edge or Fold 7.
Apple says the iPhone Air is 5.6 mm thin, making it the slimmest iPhone ever. Now, while that&rsquo;s true, the camera plateau is still hard to ignore. I get that better cameras need more space, but it reminds me of the iPhone 6 from 2014. That one felt like a truly slim phone, bump included. The iPhone Air may not be quite as seamless, but it&rsquo;s easily one of Apple&rsquo;s boldest design moves in years.
<h2>The iPhone Air comes with only one rear camera. Does it hold up?</h2>
On paper, the iPhone Air&rsquo;s camera setup might seem a little underwhelming, and to some extent, that&rsquo;s true. When you compare it to rivals like the Galaxy S25 Edge, which manages to stay almost as slim while offering one more camera, Apple&rsquo;s choice does come across a bit conservative.&nbsp;
The phone comes with a 48MP Fusion camera that also delivers 2x lossless zoom. The photos out of this sensor are nothing short of breathtaking. The photos I took turned out crisp, full of detail, and with properly balanced, which looked lively. Daylight shots pop beautifully, while low-light images retain solid clarity with minimal noise.
Still, I couldn&rsquo;t help but notice the absence of an ultrawide lens after using it for a few days.&nbsp;
The Air also misses out on some high-end tools found on the Pro models, like ProRes video and ProRAW photo capture.&nbsp;
That said, it still offers all of Apple&rsquo;s latest photographic styles and keeps the interface refreshingly simple. You just open the app, shoot, and get solid results, its that simple.&nbsp;
Video performance holds up well too. You can record in 4K at 60fps, and the stabilisation feels rock steady, though zooming in, even a little does lead to a noticeable dip in quality.
The front camera, however, is where Apple has made a real leap. The new 24MP square sensor outputs 18MP images and introduces Centre Stage to the iPhone lineup. It automatically adjusts framing based on orientation and the number of faces in view, and it genuinely makes selfies and group shots look more natural and well-composed.
<h2>The iPhone Air has a gorgeous display</h2>
The iPhone Air feels like the perfect middle ground in size, sitting neatly between the iPhone 17 Pro and the Pro Max with its 6.5-inch display. Personally, I think it&rsquo;s just the right balance, big enough for watching videos comfortably, but still light and compact enough to use one-handed. The screen itself is classic Apple quality. It&rsquo;s a Super Retina XDR OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, and it feels incredibly smooth while scrolling through Instagram, Twitter, or even reading articles online.
But where it really blew me away was during video playback. It supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, and with its 3,000 nits of peak brightness, the visuals just pop. I rewatched Despicable Me and Minions on it, and honestly, the colours and contrast looked so good that I caught myself smiling at a few scenes. It&rsquo;s bright, sharp, and just beautiful to look at.
Even the speakers surprised me. They&rsquo;re not as loud or full as the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but considering how thin this phone is, they sound way better than I expected. Music, podcasts, even a few late-night Netflix episodes, it all sounded clean and balanced. For something this slim, the iPhone Air really nails the media experience.
<h2>The iPhone Air&rsquo;s performance and software experience</h2>
The iPhone Air runs on the same A19 Pro chip as the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, although it&rsquo;s tuned a little differently. It uses a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU, just like the regular iPhone 17. On paper, that should put its performance somewhere between the two, and benchmark scores reflect that. In AnTuTu, the 17 Pro Max scores around 2.3 million, the iPhone 17 comes in at 2.2 million, and the Air follows closely at about 2.0 million.
In daily use, though, I barely noticed any difference. Apps open quickly, multitasking feels smooth, and everything runs with the same polish you expect from a flagship iPhone. The only time I felt a slight difference was while gaming. I played BGMI and a few other demanding titles, and while gameplay stayed fluid, the phone did heat up faster than both the 17 and 17 Pro Max. It is not a deal-breaker, just physics doing what it does when you pack so much power into a body this thin. Even after half an hour of gaming, I didn&rsquo;t experience frame drops or slowdowns, so performance still feels top-tier.
Out of the box, the iPhone Air runs iOS 26, and this update feels like a major step forward. The new Liquid Glass design gives the interface a more dynamic look. Messages and Phone have cleaner layouts, the Music app has a few subtle but smart tweaks, and the new lock screen setup allows you to customise every detail.
I have been using iOS 26 since the first developer beta after WWDC 2025, and while the early versions were buggy, the final build feels stable and intuitive. Once you adjust, the entire interface feels modern and cohesive.
Where Apple still falls behind is in AI. Features like Image Playground, the AI writing tools, and Visual Intelligence sound impressive but feel basic compared to what Android phones can do. Visual Intelligence tries to mimic Google&rsquo;s Circle to Search, but it lacks the same smoothness. Even Siri has not really evolved yet. If AI features are what you care about most, Android still leads that race, at least for now.
<h2>How&rsquo;s the battery life on the iPhone Air?</h2>
The iPhone Air packs a 3,149 mAh battery, and I&rsquo;ll admit, I wasn&rsquo;t expecting much from it. The fact that Apple announced a dedicated MagSafe Battery Pack, particularly for this model, almost felt like a warning sign. But after using it for a week, I was pleasantly surprised.&nbsp;
Despite the small capacity, it easily lasts a full day on a single charge. I&rsquo;m a heavy user, constantly switching between photos, videos, YouTube, and even some gaming, and I usually ended the day with around 15 per cent still left.
On busier days, the MagSafe Battery Pack really helped. Starting from 1 per cent, it topped the phone up to about 65 per cent, which was enough for another half day of use.&nbsp;
Charging speeds were decent too, but that&rsquo;s largely because the battery&rsquo;s small. Using a 70W charger, I got about 17-18W charge and got to 50 per cent in roughly 30 minutes and a full charge in about an hour and a half. Wireless charging via MagSafe supports up to 20W.
<h2>Verdict: Should you consider buying the iPhone Air?</h2>
So, who exactly is the iPhone Air meant for? In my opinion, this is Apple experimenting before its next big leap. A foldable iPhone is almost inevitable at this point, likely arriving with the iPhone 18, and the Air feels like a test run for that future. Much like how Samsung used the S25 Edge to refine the design language for its Galaxy Z Fold 7, Apple seems to be testing how far it can stretch its design and manufacturing limits &mdash; and how users respond.
The iPhone Air is built for those who value aesthetics and design above all else. It&rsquo;s light, elegant, and feels premium in every sense. The display is gorgeous, performance is fast, and the craftsmanship is pure Apple.
However, it isn&rsquo;t for everyone. If you want great cameras or long battery life, the iPhone 17 or 17 Pro Max make more sense. The Air exists to showcase design brilliance, not all-out specs.

Every year, Apple promises its newest iPhone Pro is the best yet. And most years, the upgrades are more subtle than exciting. The iPhone 17 Pro Max changes that. &nbsp;
I&rsquo;ve spent two weeks with it, and three things stood out right away: design, performance, and battery life. These areas matter to many people, and this year, Apple seems to have finally nailed them.
<h2>iPhone 17 Pro Max Design</h2>
Both the 17 Pro and Pro Max finally bring something fresh. The new two-tone finish gives it a nice visual break but I didn&rsquo;t get the viral <a href="https://hook.online/newsreel/iphone-17-pro-max-cosmic-orange-sold-out-in-india-launch-details-1758097762581">Orange Cosmic</a> version that&rsquo;s been all over the internet. My review unit came in Deep Blue. It&rsquo;s sleek, understated, and far more subtle than the orange.
The titanium frame is gone, replaced by a new aluminum unibody that instantly feels sturdier. Aluminum also runs cooler under heavy use, and in daily use, the phone feels more solid in hand.
The extended camera plateau (as Apple calls it) is hard to miss, but it&rsquo;s also more practical now. It gives your fingers a natural place to rest, and since the lenses sit slightly deeper, the phone rocks less on flat surfaces. There&rsquo;s still a bit of wobble, just not as bad as before.&nbsp;
Some early units showed scratches on the camera module, raising durability concerns. Two weeks in, mine looks fine. There are light scuffs, but nothing out of the ordinary for a metal phone. Still, if you like keeping your phone spotless, a case is a good idea.&nbsp;
Speaking of which, Apple sent over its new iPhone 17 Pro Max Clear Case with <a href="https://www.editorji.com/tech-news/mobiles/iphone-air-asmr-unboxing-first-look-apple-s-boldest-iphone-in-years-1758885499880">MagSafe</a> for me to try, and I&rsquo;ve got mixed feelings about it. It offers solid protection and feels grippy, which I like. It&rsquo;s also cleaner-looking than those old MagSafe &ldquo;ring&rdquo; clear cases that never quite worked for me.
What&rsquo;s odd, though, is the white patch on the back. It blends well with the Silver iPhone, but clashes with the Deep Blue and Orange Cosmic models. I don&rsquo;t get why Apple didn&rsquo;t release versions that complement those colors.&nbsp;
Anyway, at 6.9 inches, this is still a big device. It&rsquo;s slightly heavier than last year&rsquo;s 16 Pro Max and roughly matches the 14 Pro Max in weight. You&rsquo;ll feel the heft if you&rsquo;re coming from a smaller iPhone. That said, the rounded edges and balanced weight distribution make it more comfortable to hold. It&rsquo;s large, but it doesn&rsquo;t feel like a brick anymore.
<h2>iPhone 17 Pro Max Performance: A19 Pro chip and Better Cooling</h2>
The second biggest improvement is performance. This is where the iPhone 17 Pro Max really flexes, especially when juggling multiple apps or heavy tasks.
Part of that comes down to more RAM. Apple doesn&rsquo;t list the number, but reports suggest it&rsquo;s around 12GB, up from 8GB last year. The new <a href="https://www.editorji.com/tech-news/mobiles/apple-iphone-17-series-launch-everything-you-need-to-know-1757452282187">A19 Pro chip</a> also plays a major role. It packs a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine.
Benchmarks show a 20 percent boost in multi-core and 12 percent in single-core performance compared to the A18 Pro. On paper, that sounds incremental, but the real improvement is in everyday use.&nbsp;
Over the past two weeks, I tried to push it hard with the kind of stuff that made the 16 Pro Max sweat. I ran a FaceTime call, uploaded photos to iCloud, played a podcast, and scrolled through Instagram all at once. The 16 Pro Max would have heated up quickly, but the 17 Pro Max just cruised through it.
A new vapour chamber inside the 17 Pro Max also helps spread heat more evenly. I played COD Mobile for over two hours, and the phone stayed comfortable to hold. The back can get slightly warm, but I never noticed any slowdown. I also shot a few 4K 60fps clips in the sun, and the screen never dimmed or dropped frames. That&rsquo;s a big deal if you&rsquo;ve ever used an older iPhone that turned into a hand warmer.
<h2>Battery Life: iPhone 17 Pro Max Charges Faster and Lasts Longer</h2>
The third significant upgrade on the iPhone 17 Pro Max is battery life and charging. It now supports Qi 2 wireless charging at 25W and faster wired charging at 40W.&nbsp;
That means you can hit 50 percent in about 20 minutes without the phone heating up or feeling stressed. Battery life is back to Pro Max legend status. On paper, it&rsquo;s a small jump from 4685mAh on the 16 Pro Max to 4832mAh here, but in daily use, it feels like a much bigger leap.&nbsp;
It reminds me of the 13 Pro Max, the last time an iPhone truly felt like a two-day phone. Even with heavy use, I end most days with 25 to 30 percent left and about 10 hours of screen time.&nbsp;
Low Power Mode is smooth, too. It used to cut performance sharply on the 16 Pro Maxy, but on the 17 Pro Max, it just stretches battery life without slowing things down. If the 16 Pro Max had you reaching for the charger before dinner, this one fixes that. Apple&rsquo;s battery king is finally back.
<h2>Camera System: Triple 48MP Setup With a Sharper 18MP Selfie Sensor</h2>
The biggest upgrade in the camera department is the new telephoto lens, joined by a refreshed 18MP Centre Stage selfie camera at the front. The other two cameras on the back remain the same &mdash; a 48MP main and a 48MP ultrawide.So, for the first time, the iPhone 17 Pro Max and 17 Pro are the only Pro models where all three rear cameras shoot at 48 megapixels.&nbsp;
The ultrawide and main cameras are still excellent. I found the focal lengths ideal for everyday use, and the main sensor continues to deliver sharp and detailed shots.
Of course, there are moments when Android phones edge past it. The <a href="https://www.editorji.com/tech-news/gadget-review/vivo-x200-pro-review-cameras-performance-everything-in-between-1734951900393">Vivo X200 Pro</a> takes cleaner portraits, the Galaxy S25 Ultra still owns zoom, and the Pixel 10 series nails skin tones better.
That said, I really enjoyed using the 4x optical zoom camera. On paper, it&rsquo;s technically a downgrade from the 5x on the 16 Pro Max, but it&rsquo;s not the letdown I expected. In fact, the new 8x zoom &mdash; even though it&rsquo;s digital &mdash; is surprisingly useful.
You can argue about Apple calling it &ldquo;optical-quality zoom,&rdquo; but the results speak for themselves. The level of detail at 8x is genuinely impressive, and Apple&rsquo;s stabilization keeps shots steady and blur-free even when you&rsquo;re zoomed in that far. It&rsquo;s easily my favorite part of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and honestly, the one feature that makes the $300 jump over the regular iPhone 17 feel justified.
Video is another area where these cameras really shine. Stabilization is excellent, front and back, and switching between lenses while recording is smooth. Low-light video looks cleaner too, with far less grain. Google&rsquo;s Video Boost tech gets close, but not consistently.
Some of Apple&rsquo;s more advanced video tools are still reserved for the Pro models. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max can record 4K Dolby Vision video at 120 frames per second and ProRes video up to 60fps.&nbsp;
The new Dual Capture feature is also worth noting. You can record with the front and rear cameras at the same time. Third-party apps have offered this before, and Samsung has had it on Galaxy phones for years. The iPhone 17 Pro Max just executes it better, with smoother results and higher-quality output.
Another significant upgrade is the new Centre Stage front camera. It&rsquo;s available across the entire iPhone 17 lineup and features a square sensor for the first time. That small design change makes a huge difference. You no longer need to rotate the phone for portrait or landscape selfies, or stretch your arm to fit everyone into the frame. Honestly, it&rsquo;s the most practical camera feature Apple has added this year.
Centre Stage also works during FaceTime calls, keeping you in the frame as you move. It feels more natural now, especially when you&rsquo;re walking or holding the phone instead of placing it on a surface.
The front camera itself is sharper, too. It uses a 24MP sensor that delivers 18MP selfies, replacing the older 12MP TrueDepth system. The difference in detail and skin tones is instantly noticeable. The camera control button makes a return on all iPhone 17 models and the iPhone Air. Honestly, it hasn&rsquo;t changed much. It still feels a bit clunky to navigate, even after a year.
All in all, though, the 17 Pro Max offers a great camera system. The 48MP rear cameras and the 18MP Centre Stage camera on the front give you plenty of creative flexibility for photos and video. That said, most people probably aren&rsquo;t upgrading from a 16 Pro just for the cameras.
The improvements are noticeable if you&rsquo;re moving up from a 14 Pro or older. That means you&rsquo;re greeted by Apple&rsquo;s new Liquid Glass design right away. It has been a bit polarizing so far, especially when it comes to text legibility. It&rsquo;s an acquired taste, but it fits the overall look of the iPhone 17 Pro Max nicely. As always, Apple&rsquo;s long-term support is a big plus. Six to seven years of updates feel almost guaranteed.
I&rsquo;m less excited about the ability to change the transparency of the app icons. The tinted and clear options don&rsquo;t really work for me. I stuck with the default look because it still feels the most like an iPhone.
Apple Intelligence is also still finding its footing. Features like Visual Intelligence, Image Playground, Writing Tools, and AI Eraser are fun to try, but none of them feel essential yet. Compared to Android, Apple&rsquo;s approach feels more like a starting point than the finished product.
<h2>iPhone 17 Pro Max Display: Brighter Than Ever, Though Not a Major Leap</h2>
Apple hasn&rsquo;t really changed the display this year, but that&rsquo;s okay &mdash; it was already great. The 120Hz OLED screen on the iPhone 17 Pro Max still looks beautiful. It&rsquo;s big, bright, and sharp, and watching videos or scrolling through photos is a treat.
The size really stands out when you&rsquo;re gaming. There&rsquo;s plenty of room for controls, and everything feels smooth and easy to see.
What&rsquo;s new is the brightness. The screen now peaks at 3,000 nits outdoors, up from 2,000 last year. That&rsquo;s a noticeable jump. I could see everything clearly, even under harsh sunlight, which really helps when shooting photos or video outside.
The dual stereo speakers sound good too &mdash; loud and clear enough to watch a show or listen to music without reaching for earbuds.
<h2>Verdict: Should You Buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max?&nbsp;</h2>
The iPhone 17 Pro Max finally feels like a proper upgrade, and in many ways, it&rsquo;s the first one in a while that truly earns the &ldquo;Pro&rdquo; name. Yes, it&rsquo;s big, a bit heavy, and still very expensive at ₹1,49,990, but the new design, faster performance, and better battery life make it feel like a complete package.

"Around 9 this morning, I started getting calls on my phone but did not pick up the phone. Later I received a voice note message. The message contained slurs for India and said we can not do any harm to Pakistan or Turkiye. I sent a voice note responding to the threats," he told reporters.
Traders are planning to meet the Pune police commissioner in this regard, said Zende.
As a protest, traders at Marketyard on Thursday threw apples imported from Turkiye on the road.
According to Zende, traders in Pune import apples, litchi, plums, cherries, and dried fruits from Turkiye. The import of apples alone is to the tune of Rs 1,200 crore, he had said earlier.

Apple will source the majority of the iPhone sold in the US from India in the June quarter while China will produce the vast majority of the devices for other markets amid uncertainty over tax tariffs, a top official said on Friday.
During the company's second-quarter earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company made quarterly records in several countries, including India.
The company, however, recorded the seventh straight quarter of sales decline in China where it produced the largest volume of iPhones.
"For the June quarter, we do expect the majority of iPhones sold in the US will have India as their country of origin, and Vietnam to be the country of origin for almost all iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and AirPods products also sold in the US. China would continue to be the country of origin for the vast majority of total product sales outside the US," Cook said.
According to an analysis by S&amp;P Global, Apple's iPhone sales in the US were 75.9 million units in 2024, with exports in March from India equivalent to 3.1 million units in March, suggesting a need to double shipments either through new capacity or redirecting shipments bound for the domestic market.
"Apple's Indian exports already headed predominantly to the United States, which represented 81.9 per cent of phones exported by the firm in the three months to February 28, 2025. That increased to 97.6 per cent in March 2025 as a result of a 219 per cent jump in exports, likely reflecting the firm looking to preempt higher tariffs," S&amp;P Global Market Intelligence report said.
Cook said that Vietnam will become the country of origin for almost all iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and AirPods products sold in the US.
He said that for the June quarter, most of the tariff exposure for Apple is at the rate of 20 per cent, which applies to imports to the US for products that have China as their country of origin.
"In addition, for China, there was an additional 125 per cent tariff for imports of certain categories of products announced in April. For us, that's some of our US Apple Care and accessories businesses and brings the total rate in China for these products to at least 145 per cent," Cook said.
Cook said that the vast majority of Apple's products, including iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro, are currently not subject to the global reciprocal tariffs that were announced in April, as the Commerce Department has initiated a Section 232 investigation into imports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and downstream products that contain semiconductors.
"For the June quarter, as I talked about in my opening comments, we estimate the impact, assuming that the current global tariff rates, policies, and applications don't change for the balance of the quarter to be USD 900 million to our costs. I wouldn't want to predict the mix of production in the future, but I wanted to give you clarity for the June quarter of where the country of origins are," Cook said.
In the second quarter ended March 29, 2025, Apple reported a 5 per cent increase in revenue to USD 95.35 billion, up from USD 90.75 billion in the same period last year, driven mainly by growth in services, Mac and iPad sales.
Apple sales were up by about 8 per cent in the Americas to USD 40.31 billion, 1.3 per cent in Europe to USD 24.45 billion, 16.54 per cent in Japan to 7.29 billion, USD 8.4 per cent in the rest of Asia Pacific Regions, including India on Y-o-Y basis during the reported quarter.
Market research firm Counterpoint Research estimates that Apple recorded its highest-ever shipment volume in India in March 2025 quarter with 29 per cent Y-o-Y growth, The company's sales declined by 2.2 per cent in Greater China to USD 16 billion from USD 16.37 billion on Y-o-Y basis during the March 2025 quarter.
Talking about retail business, Cook said that the company has opened two Apple stores during the quarter.
"We're also looking forward to a new retail store in the UAE, the arrival of the online store in Saudi Arabia, and new retail stores in India starting later this year," Cook said.
iPhone sales declined by about 2 per cent to USD 46.84 billion year-over-year (Y-o-Y) from USD 45.96 billion in the March 2024 quarter.
Apple Mac sales grew by 6.6 per cent to USD 7.94 billion from USD 7.4 billion, iPad sales were up about 15 per cent to USD 6.4 billion from USD 5.55 billion, and services sales increased 11.63 per cent to USD 26.64 billion from USD 23.86 billion on Y-o-Y basis during the quarter.
Apple's wearables, home, and accessories recorded about 5 per cent decline to USD 7.52 billion during the March 2025 quarter from USD 7.91 billion in the year-ago period.
The company in the second quarter released iOS 18.4, which brought Apple Intelligence to more languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese, as well as localised English to Singapore and India.

Xiaomi&rsquo;s betting on sheer specs and Android flexibility, while Apple banks on ecosystem lock-in and long-term updates. One&rsquo;s a powerhouse, the other plays it safe.
The choice isn&rsquo;t just about hardware&mdash;it&rsquo;s about how much you&rsquo;re willing to compromise. Now, both phones feel every bit as premium as you&rsquo;d expect.
<h3>Design</h3>
Matte glass backs that reject fingerprints like they have trust issues, aluminum frames that scream &ldquo;I belong in the flagship club,&rdquo; and just enough heft to make them feel expensive.
Apple sticks to its black-and-white colour choices, while Xiaomi throws in a pastel green, because why not? Although I was sent the black variant which feels a bit muted.
The iPhone 16e is all about being sleek and lightweight, while the Xiaomi 15 has that solid, tank-like feel. Apple also gives you last-gen Ceramic Shield for the display&mdash;tough, but not quite as tough as the version on the pricier models.
Xiaomi pulls the same move, skipping the upgraded Shield Glass from its top-tier lineup. For security and biometrics, the iPhone 16e comes with Face ID, which is reliable as ever.
Xiaomi&rsquo;s in-display fingerprint scanner is snappy too, though the speed is mostly UI trickery. Both are IP68-rated, so they&rsquo;ll survive a coffee spill&mdash;or if you&rsquo;re clumsy, much worse.
The Xiaomi 15 is a classic Android flagship&mdash;minimalist, premium, no-nonsense. And the iPhone 16e, well, looks like any other iPhone. That is, until you get a look at the display.
<h3>Display &amp; Audio</h3>
The first thing you notice is that massive notch which instantly makes the iPhone 16e feel outdated.
And because of the notch, you miss out on some of Dynamic Island&rsquo;s best features like live updates for your Zomato orders or Uber.
But once you get past the notch, the rest of the display is actually solid. It&rsquo;s a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel which is bright, vibrant and incredibly sharp, and is great for watching content.
The Xiaomi 15&rsquo;s 6.36-inch LTPO display, though, is a whole other beast. The higher peak brightness means HDR content looks way better, and Xiaomi has all the certifications to back that up.
The bezels on the Xiaomi 15 are much slimmer compared to the iPhone 16e, because of which it feels even more premium. But the biggest difference between the two is the refresh rate.
The Xiaomi 15 dynamically adjusts to up to 120Hz, which makes everything feel buttery smooth. Scrolling through webpages, app animations, gaming&mdash;it all feels silky smooth.
The iPhone 16e, on the other hand, is stuck at 60Hz, and you feel that, big time. You constantly get microstutters when scrolling through text or even when navigating through the UI.
So, while both displays are good image-wise, Xiaomi clearly takes the lead in overall quality, responsiveness, and just how enjoyable it feels to use.
As for audio, both the Xiaomi 15 and iPhone 16e have stereo speakers which are loud, crisp, and surprisingly punchy with solid bass.
<h3>Performance &amp; Software</h3>
Performance-wise, the Xiaomi 15 flexes its Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, while the iPhone 16e packs the A18&mdash;though Apple quietly snipped off a GPU core. But that's not as bad as it sounds.
In Geekbench, the iPhone 16e still keeps up in single-core performance, but in multi-core, the Xiaomi pulls ahead. Graphics-heavy benchmarks like 3DMark and Antutu tell the real story&mdash;Xiaomi&rsquo;s extra GPU muscle offers higher numbers, while the iPhone 16e lags behind, thanks to that missing core.
In real-world use, though, you probably won&rsquo;t notice the difference unless you&rsquo;re running Genshin at maximum settings. The bigger problem, though, is Apple&rsquo;s insistence on a 60Hz display. Even with iOS 18&rsquo;s animations, the iPhone 16e feels sluggish next to the Xiaomi&rsquo;s 120Hz fluidity.
When it comes to heavier tasks though, like 4K video recording or editing, both hold up well. They also manage heat pretty well, despite very different cooling setups.
On the software side, the Xiaomi 15 runs on HyperOS 2, while the iPhone 16e is on iOS 18. As for updates, Xiaomi has promised 4 OS plus 6 security updates. With most iPhones you&rsquo;re good for 7-8 years, although Apple has never admitted it officially.
Now, HyperOS 2 isn&rsquo;t exactly stock Android, but you won&rsquo;t find a tonne of bloatware. Plus, it has its bag of AI tricks&mdash;AI Writing, AI Editing, AI Search, AI Dynamic Wallpapers, and of course, Google&rsquo;s Circle to Search and Gemini.
iOS 18 also brings some AI features under Apple Intelligence like Visual Intelligence, AI Writing Tools, Object Eraser, and Image Playground.&nbsp;&nbsp;
But even though Apple is pushing the iPhone 16e as the gateway to Apple Intelligence, you shouldn&rsquo;t buy the iPhone 16e just for that. Saying Apple is having a rough time with its AI features would be an understatement.&nbsp;
<h3>Cameras</h3>

When it comes to cameras, the Xiaomi 15 packs a triple 50MP Leica-tuned setup, while the iPhone 16e gets a 48MP Fusion sensor.
It's not the same one as the iPhone 16 or 16 Plus. It&rsquo;s a smaller sensor, which means images and videos are a little noisier, especially in low light.
In daylight, both phones take fantastic shots.
The iPhone 16e has a better dynamic range, so it shows more details in shadows.
The Xiaomi, on the other hand, is more contrasty and has punchier colours.
When you zoom in 2X, the iPhone switches from 24MP to 12MP, and loses some detail. The Xiaomi, though stays rock solid. I feel the Xiaomi is at its strongest at 2.6X, with creamier bokeh and superb details.
We get to see similar results in video as well. As for stabilisation, the Xiaomi 15 is excellent and holds up well in most scenarios.
The iPhone 16e does a decent job, but it&rsquo;s nowhere near the iPhone 16 or 16 Pro Max.&nbsp; That&rsquo;s because Apple stuck with a standard lens-based OIS instead of the sensor-shift stabilisation.
In portraits, both the devices handle edge detection well.
At the front, the iPhone 16e gets a 12MP camera, whereas the Xiaomi 16 gets a 32MP camera with fixed focus. However, both of them do a pretty decent good job with both photos and video.
All in all, you&rsquo;ll be better off with the Xiaomi 15 as a whole. It&rsquo;s got a better macro and telephoto setup, and an ultrawide lens&mdash;all with pretty solid sensors.
Plus, the Xiaomi 15 packs pro-level video features like 10-bit log recording, Dolby Vision, and a dedicated movie mode.
<h3>Battery &amp; Charging</h3>
Battery life is surprisingly solid on both. The Xiaomi 15 and iPhone 16e push through 7&ndash;8 hours of screen time, even with the iPhone&rsquo;s smaller battery. That&rsquo;s probably down to that 60Hz display, and the new C1 modem sipping power instead of guzzling it.
Charging, though, is where Xiaomi takes the lead. A 90W charger in the box&mdash;yes, in 2025, that&rsquo;s a flex&mdash;gets you from 0 to 100% in under an hour. It even does 50W wireless and 10W reverse wireless.
Meanwhile, the iPhone's 20W wired charging means you&rsquo;ll be sitting around for nearly two hours, and you better already own a charger, because Apple sure isn&rsquo;t giving you one.
<h3>Verdict</h3>
Going into this review, I knew the Xiaomi 15 would win, but even I was surprised by just how one-sided this turned out to be.&nbsp;
The Xiaomi 15 an absolute beast, with great cameras, solid performance, and impressive battery life&mdash;easily one of the best compact flagships out there.
The only real reason to pick the iPhone 16e would be iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence. But even then, that&rsquo;s not good enough.
If you have to have an iPhone, there are far better options out there, especially if you&rsquo;re willing to stretch your budget or wait for seasonal discounts.

It also remains the main entry point to the company's services, such as the App Store or Apple TV, which are becoming a growing part of its business. This success is a continuation of a remarkable growth trajectory. Data from Statista shows that Apple grossed just 1.39 million dollars in iPhone sales in 2007, the year it was launched. However, it soon saw multi-fold growth, peaking at 242 million dollars in 2021, when it recovered from the impact of COVID-19. Not only this. In 2023, Apple's iPhone overtook Samsung for the first time, becoming the world's top-selling smartphone after Samsung's 12-year dominance.
