Apple Intelligence is here, but first... jump through these hoops

Apple’s new AI feature, Apple Intelligence, arrives with iOS 18.1, but requires specific settings, compatible devices, and a waitlist. Here's what you need to know to get Apple Intelligence on your iPhone.

Apple Intelligence is here, but first... jump through these hoops

Apple just dropped iOS 18.1, and with it, the long-awaited Apple Intelligence! That’s right, AI has finally arrived on iPhones and iPads—though, in typical Apple fashion, it's not as simple as “download and go.” There are, of course, a few hoops to jump through.

So, if you’re ready to dive into the world of Apple-powered AI, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Change your language to US English. Yup, Apple said, "No AI unless you speak fluent ‘Murican." Head to Settings > General > Language & Region and switch your language to English (US). It’s like learning a new language... sort of.
  2. Update your phone. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install iOS 18.1. The update isn’t massive, but it unlocks the magic door to Apple Intelligence.

And just when you think you’re done—surprise! You’re not. Believe it or not, there’s a waitlist! Yeah, even the AI is playing hard to get. Go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, sign up, and cross your fingers. Apple says most people get access within hours, but... no promises.

So, what do you get with Apple Intelligence? Right now, it’s a smarter Siri that answers typed requests, better writing tools to make your texts sound polished, and smarter photo management. More AI features? They’re coming... eventually.

Now, for the fine print: Apple Intelligence only works on iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models. On the iPad side, M-series iPads and the latest iPad Mini are your ticket in.

To sum it up: Switch your language, update your phone, join the waitlist, and hope you make the cut. It’s the Apple way—because what’s more exciting than AI wrapped in a little exclusivity, right?
