Dharmendra remained unsoiled throughout his glorious career in a fraternity that witnessed changes every decade, megastar Amitabh Bachchan said on Tuesday as he mourned the death of his friend and co-star of classics such as "Sholay" and "Chupke Chupke".
Dharmendra, 89, passed away at his Juhu home on Monday after prolonged illness.
"...another valiant Giant has left us .. left the arena .. leaving behind a silence with an unbearable sound," Bachchan wrote about Dharmendra, who played Veeru to his Jai in the 1975 classic and defined onscreen brotherhood through the song "Ye dosti hum nahi todenge".

Bachchan attended the last rites of the actor with grandson Agastya Nanda and son Abhishek Bachchan.
Nanda plays Dharmendra's son in the yet to release "Ikkis", which is possibly the late actor's last movie role.
"Dharam ji .. the epitome of greatness, ever linked not only for his renowned physical presence, but for the largeness of his heart , and its most endearing simplicity .. he brought with him the earthiness of the village in Punjab he came from, and remained true to its temperament .. un soiled throughout his glorious career, in a fraternity that witnessed changes every decade .. the fraternity underwent changes .. not him," Bachchan wrote in his official blog post.
Bachchan said Dharmendra's "smile, his charm and his warmth" extended to all that came in his vicinity, which, according to the megastar, is a rarity in the profession.
"The air about us swings vacant .. a vacuum that shall ever remain vacuus.. prayers," Bachchan wrote.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has commenced shooting for the 17th season of the long-running quiz show "Kaun Banega Crorepati".
The new season is set to feature not only new contestants and challenging questions, but also special surprises in celebration of the show&rsquo;s 25-year journey, the makers said in a statement.
"With a new season and the legendary host at the helm, KBC 17 promises to be one of the most sought after shows on Indian television. The opening episode will not only present some new announcements but also brings with it a fresh wave of excitement," it added.
To mark the 25th anniversary milestone, the Sony TV show has also launched a campaign -- #JahanAkalHaiWahaanAkadHai -- which reflects how intellect today is worn with pride &mdash; celebrating not just knowledge but the confidence that comes with it.
Bachchan, who has been the face of KBC since its inception in 2000, except for one season in 2003, took to his blog on the eve of the new season to share his thoughts.
&ldquo;At work .. early rise, early work .. first day of KBC new season .. and as always .. the nerves .. the shaking knees the apprehension,&rdquo; he wrote, reflecting his continued humility and excitement even after 24 years.

"Kaun Banega Crorepati" season 17 will premiere on August 11 and will air Monday to Friday at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television and stream on SonyLIV.

Bachchan received the recognition on April 24, the Memorial Day of Deenanath Mangeshkar, the theatre-music veteran and father of the Mangeshkar siblings. The 81-year-old star, whose career spans over five decades in films, said he was blessed to receive the award. &lsquo;I'm fortunate to receive this award today. I never really regarded myself worthy of such an award, but Hridyanath ji tried hard so that I could come here. He even invited me for this ceremony last year,&rsquo; he said. &lsquo;Hridaynath ji, I apologise to you for last time. I had then told you I was unwell. I was healthy but didn't want to come here. This year I had no excuse, so I had to come here,&rsquo; Bachchan said in his award acceptance speech. The actor said his father and celebrated Hindi poet Harivansh used to liken Lata Mangeshkar's voice to &lsquo;shehad ki dhaar&rsquo; . &lsquo;The sweetness in her voice was honey and as the flow of honey never breaks, her 'swar' never breaks. Whenever someone hits the right chord, our soul meets with 'parmatma' . And Lata Mangeshkar ji's 'swar' joins us with God,&rsquo; Bachchan said. Singer Usha Mangeshkar, the third eldest Mangeshkar sibling, presented the award to Bachchan. Veteran singer Asha Bhosle, the second Mangeshkar sibling, was initially scheduled to present the trophies but was absent due to illness. The award was established by the family and trust in memory of Lata Mangeshkar, the eldest of the five Mangeshkar siblings, who passed away in 2022. During the event, music maestro A R Rahman was honored with the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar for his contributions to Indian music. Rahman, a multiple award-winning musician known for his collaborations with Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle over the decades, mentioned his longstanding connection with the Mangeshkar family. Marathi writer Manjiri Phadke was awarded the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar for her contribution to literature. Actor Randeep Hooda was honoured with the Vishesh Puraskar for best film production and acting. Actor Ashok Saraf was acknowledged for his contributions to cinema and drama, while actor Padmini Kolhapure received the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar for her work in cinema. Among the recipients were singer Roopkumar Rathod for his contributions to music, Bhau Torsekar for editorial services, and Atul Parchure for his contributions to theatre and drama. About the award Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, also known as the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar, is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the nation, its people, and society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first recipient, followed by Asha Bhosle in 2023. The event was led by music composer Hridaynath Mangeshkar, the youngest of the Mangeshkar siblings.

The superstar revealed he had a busy day and did not get his traditional break. He shared that he ended up having lunch in his car.

About Mumbai&rsquo;s Coastal Road
Last month, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the first phase of the coastal road between Worli and Marine Drive in south Mumbai, hailing it as an &lsquo;engineering marvel.&rsquo; The 10.5-kilometer-long stretch opened for traffic allows motorists to enter from Worli Seaface, Haji Ali interchange, and Amarson's interchange points, and exit at Marine Lines.
The second phase is set to open for traffic in May, connecting the 53 km-long coastal road to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and extending it up to Dahisar. The coastal road has been named after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, son of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and was inaugurated on his death anniversary. A statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj will be erected in Worli, next to the coastal road.

A photo posted on his blog revealed several white marble deity statues adorned with fresh flowers inside the temple at Jalsa. Additionally, a black shivling rested on a white marble stand, with golden bells hanging from the temple's ceiling.
In a few images, Amitabh was captured pouring milk over the shivling and offering water to a tulsi plant in his garden. Dressed in a black hoodie and pants, the actor remained barefoot.

Earlier this month, Amitabh Bachchan visited the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya for the second time since its grand inauguration in January. The veteran actor was photographed standing before the Ram Lalla idol, offering prayers with folded hands.
In addition to visiting the temple, Amitabh Bachchan also purchased property near the temple premises. Reports indicate that he acquired a plot of land for a home in Ayodhya, specifically in The Sarayu, a 7-star mixed-use enclave developed by Mumbai-based developer The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL).
