Domestic airline Akasa Air reaches the international sky with its inaugural overseas flight departing from Mumbai to Doha, Qatar. In a statement, the airline said that it has been granted traffic rights for three other international destinations including Kuwait, Jeddah, and Riyadh.

The statement further mentioned that Akasa will be expanding its footprint globally in the coming months while adding that with its conveniently timed flight schedule, travellers from other domestic cities such as Ahmedabad, Goa, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Delhi will also have multiple connecting options for travel to and from Doha via Mumbai.
Domestically, Akasa Air operates in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, among others.

Akasa Air has ordered 150 more Boeing 737 Max Aircraft and is planning to use the aircraft to start new routes in domestic and international markets. Earlier, the airline had placed an order of 76 Boeing 737 Max planes, out of which 22 planes are delivered.&nbsp;
The order also comes at a time when, incidents of Boeing 737 Max Aircraft with loose hardware are reported.
<h3>Akasa Air to go international</h3>
The airline which is backed by the family of ace broker Rakesh Jhunjhunwala is gearing up to launch its international operations as it has become eligible for the same, and is planning to start flights to Doha and Riyadh by this year.
As per Indian regulations an airline must have at least 20 aircraft in their fleet to be eligible for international flights.
Since it started flying in 2022, Akasa Air has garnered a market share of 4% as against Indigo's 60% and Tata Group airlines' combined 26%. Late last year, the airline faced issues as pilots quit without serving notice period. This forced Akasa Air to cut flights and saw its market share drop by 1%.&nbsp;
However, its CEO Vinay Dubey has assured that they have hired enough pilots since then and have built up a strong bench strength.

Justice SM Modak in his oral order has said that the company can approach the court in Mumbai. The airline had filed a suit against six pilots and have asked for a compensation of Rs 21 crore. It has also asked the court to direct the pilots to serve out their notice period
The pilots had earlier raised the issue of Jurisdiction and argued in court that they do not reside in Mumbai, and therefore the suit can&rsquo;t be conducted in Mumbai.&nbsp;

The airline also told the court that they have cancelled 24 flights per day so far in September due to the abrupt resignation. Akasa Air had earlier accused Air India Express for poaching the pilots. The airline has also taken legal action against the pilots who refused to serve the six months notice period and have asked for Rs 22 crore as compensation from them for loss of revenue owing to groundings and cancellation of flights.

Akasa Air is planning to raise $75-$100 million by offering new shares, reported The Economic Times. As per the report, the funds raised would be used to make pre-delivery payment for aircraft.&nbsp;
The airline that is backed by late billionaire Rakesh Jhunjhunwala has ordered 72 Boeing 737 Max out of which 19 have been delivered. The capital infusion is based on a $650 million valuation for the airline and the company has reportedly approached potential investors including PE firms and high net-worth individuals for the fundraising.&nbsp;
Existing stakeholder PAR Capital Management that has about 6% stakes in the airline is likely to buy some fresh shares. Currently, the Jhunjhunwala family holds approximately 46% of the shares through a trust. This fundraising plan would lead to dilution of shares held by the family. However, The Economic Times quoted a source and said that the majority of the shares will continue to stay with the Jhunjhunwalas even after the fundraising.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, the report also mentioned that, the family has a right of first refusal on any equity fundraising that Akasa plans.
Jhunjhunwala family has invested $50 million in the airline company. Along with this, the aircraft sale and leaseback gains gave Akasa $300-$350 million that enabled its successful launch. Meanwhile, brokerage firm ICICI securities has said that the outlook for airlines remained strong due to healthy growth in traffic, declining jet fuel prices and ticking ticket values.

Mumbai Police have arrested a Class 12 student from Gujarat who allegedly posted a tweet claiming that an aircraft of airline Akasa Air &ldquo;will go down&rdquo;, an official said on Monday.
After the tweet, the private airline had lodged a complaint at the Airport Police Station here, based on which an FIR was registered against unidentified persons under Indian Penal Code Sections 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation), he said.
The 18-year-old student had tweeted &ldquo;AkasaAir Boeing 737 Max will go down&rdquo;, he said.
The city police during investigation traced the IP address of the tweet to Surat in Gujarat, following which a team was sent there and the student was arrested on March 27, the official said.
During interrogation, the accused told the police that he was interested in knowing about aircraft and had not realised the repercussions of such a post on social media, the official said.
The student also told the police that his intention was not to create chaos, he said.
After one-day custody, the accused was released on a bail of Rs 5,000 as his exams were going on, the official said.

The order is likely to be made before the end of this year and will be for narrowbody planes.&nbsp;

The grant of the AOC marks the satisfactory completion of all regulatory and compliance requirements for the airline's operational readiness, Akasa Air said in a statement.
The process concluded with the airline having successfully conducted a number of proving flights under the supervision of the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), it added.
The airline, backed by ace stock market investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, had taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 max aircraft in India on June 21.
"We are thankful to the Civil Aviation Ministry and the DGCA for their constructive guidance, active support and the highest levels of efficiency throughout the AOC process. We now look forward to opening our flights for sale, leading to the start of commercial operations by late July," Vinay Dube, Founder-Chief Executive Officer of Akasa Air, said.
Following the government’s initiative to usher in a new era of digitisation, Akasa Air is the first airline whose end-to-end AOC process was conducted using the government’s progressive eGCA digital platform, the airline said.
According to the airline, it will commence commercial operations later this month with two aircraft and subsequently add planes to its fleet every month.
By the end of the fiscal year 2022-23, the airline will have 18 aircraft and thereafter, will add 12-14 aircraft every 12 months. This will make up its order of 72 aircraft to be delivered over a period of five years, it said.
Last November, Akasa Air announced ordering 72 '737 Max' aircraft from Boeing. The order includes two variants from the 737 MAX family -- 737-8 and 737-8-200.
