Some Akasa Air registered user information like names, gender, e-mail addresses and phone numbers may have been viewed by unauthorised individuals.

Akasa Air data breach: India's newest airline says some user information seen by 'unauthorised' people

India's newest airline Akasa Air suffered a data breach less than a month after beginning operations. The company said that certain customer information was accessed by unauthorised personnel in the data breach.

Apologising for the incident, Akasa Air said that it was "self-reported" to nodal agency CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team). The airline said that there was no "intentional hacking attempt".

A temporary technical configuration error related to its login and sign-up service was reported on August 25. Some registered user information like names, gender, e-mail addresses and phone numbers may have been viewed by unauthorised individuals, but no travel-related information, travel records or payment information was compromised, Akasa Air said.

The airline, which started operations on 7 August 2022, said security of systems has been enhanced.
