May have to shut down: Akasa Air says Delhi HC after pilots quit

India's newly launched airline, Akasa Air has told the Delhi High Court on Tuesday that it is in a state of crisis and may have to shut down its operations. This comes as 43 pilots quit the airline without serving the required notice period.

The airline also told the court that they have cancelled 24 flights per day so far in September due to the abrupt resignation. Akasa Air had earlier accused Air India Express for poaching the pilots. The airline has also taken legal action against the pilots who refused to serve the six months notice period and have asked for Rs 22 crore as compensation from them for loss of revenue owing to groundings and cancellation of flights.

Meanwhile, the pilots who have quit have accused the airline of violating the contracts and changing the salary structure.

Akasa Air's CEO Vinay Dube had claimed that the airline plans to hire nearly 1,000 people and expand its workforce to 3,000 by the end of March 2024.
