Apple is attempting to gain intellectual property rights over depictions of apples, and is coming after a 111-year-old fruit farmer's organisation called Fruit Union Suisse for their official logo.

Apple has been very aggressive in pursuing what it perceives as infringing trademarks, and has also tried to secure a trademark in Switzerland in the past.

In 2021, Apple lost a trademark claim against Swiss Federal Railways and was forced to pay a settlement fee of $21 million. Apple also has a history of going after start-ups with fruit logos, such as Prepear in 2020.

Apple's trademark claim has nothing to do with their half-bitten apple logo, and is an attempt to own the rights to an actual apple, which should be free for everyone to use.

The Swiss court may take months or years to make a decision.
