Astronaut shares jaw dropping images of Cyclone Biparjoy from space

Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi from the United Arab Emirates, aboard the International Space Station (ISS), has provided a striking perspective of Cyclone Biparjoy brewing in the Arabian Sea, less than 180km from the Gujarat coast. In line with his earlier commitment, Al Neyadi shared a series of awe-inspiring images, capturing the cyclone's formation over two days. He further enriched this visual journey by posting a video on June 13, showcasing the cyclone's expansive development and trajectory towards the Indian coastline.

Through his posts, Al Neyadi underscored the invaluable contribution of the ISS in monitoring global weather patterns and natural phenomena. Cyclone Biparjoy, after stirring the Arabian Sea for over ten days, made its landfall near Jakhau Port in Gujarat on Thursday evening, accompanied by wind speeds between 125 kmph and 140 kmph.

In anticipation of the storm's arrival, over 74,000 individuals in Gujarat's vulnerable regions were relocated. The Director General of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has classified Biparjoy as an extremely dangerous cyclonic storm. This marks the second significant cyclone to hit the state within a span of two years, following Cyclone 'Tauktae' in May 2021.
