Oppo to stop including bundled chargers with smartphones in 2023

In an interview with Android Police, Oppo has confirmed that it will stop supplying bundled chargers with smartphones from 2023.

Billy Zhang, Oppo's vice president of overseas sales and services, has confirmed this development.

Zhang did not reveal which products would have the charger taken out of the box first. He, however, hinted that it would be for specific markets, depending on the product. Oppo may decide to get rid of the charger in some markets but not others.

Oppo's proprietary Super VOOC charging adaptor isn't available easily, so if you don't already have a compatible charger, you'd have to find one to get the most out of the company's latest phones.

Zhang also said that since buying a Super VOOC adapter off the shelf is not really easy, Oppo will focus on making the adapter readily available before it is taken out of the retail package.

Even though more and more smartphone makers have stopped giving chargers with new phones, Oppo has stayed true to its word and kept giving chargers with its phones. But that might not be true for much longer.

Zhang didn't say for sure why Oppo plans to take chargers out of its product retail boxes, but many other smartphone companies have said it's to cut down on e-waste.
