Netflix will restrict account and password sharing in India starting July 20. The service will now become harder to use for non-primary household members.

Netflix password sharing comes to an end in India, all details here

Netflix has announced that it will be implementing restrictions on account and password sharing among users in India, beginning July 20.

This follows similar steps taken in the United States earlier this year, and has been expanded to over 100 countries as of May.

Users who have been using one account across multiple households will receive an email detailing the steps they need to take in order to continue using Netflix. The email will ask those users to transfer their profile to a new account and subscription.

The new restrictions will make it increasingly difficult for those outside the primary household to access a Netflix account.

This includes a need to enter verification codes for access for up to seven days, or connecting to the primary Wi-Fi network at least once every 31 days.

Netflix will be verifying devices in a household by tracking IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity.

Netflix has also announced that it will be rolling out paid sharing in various regions, although there is no word yet on if this option will be available to Indian users.

Netflix's recent crackdown on account and password sharing in India is sure to create difficulties for those who have been using the service across multiple households.

However, Netflix hopes to make it easier for its primary users to access the service away from home.
