Used parts to be eligible for iPhone repairs: Check all details

Apple has announced the rollout of a new repair process designed to facilitate the fixing of iPhones using recycled Apple components.

This move, set to be implemented in the near future, is poised to offer a multitude of benefits to customers and independent repair shops alike.

Sustainability and customer convenience

The primary objective of this initiative is to provide customers with a broader array of repair options, extend the longevity of their devices, and mitigate the environmental impact associated with repair activities.

By leveraging recycled parts, Apple aims to bolster customer convenience while simultaneously promoting sustainability in its operations.

No more stringent standards

To ensure the safety, security, and privacy of its customers, Apple has diligently worked over the past two years to align recycled parts with the same high standards as new components.

Implementing a rigorous process to ‘pair’ these parts with the respective devices guarantees adherence to all necessary criteria, including the calibration of genuine Apple parts post-installation.

In a bid to simplify repair procedures, Apple has announced the elimination of the requirement for customers and repair shops to provide serial numbers when ordering parts for specific repairs.

Moreover, the Activation Lock feature will now extend to iPhone parts, effectively curbing the utilisation of stolen iPhones for spare parts by restricting the calibration of recycled components originating from devices with enabled Activation Lock or Lost Mode.
