OLED displays for 2024 Apple iPad Pro models enter production: Report

Apple's next-generation iPad Pro models are expected to go official this year.

Now, a new report suggests that the OLED displays for both models have entered the production phase. This development is expected to pave the way for device shipments to commence in April.

Display Production Details

According to a recent report by The Elec, LG Display has initiated the manufacturing of thin film transistors (TFT) for the new 13-inch iPad Pro displays.

Meanwhile, Samsung is set to kickstart its own TFT production for the new 11-inch iPad Pro this week. The TFT technology plays a crucial role in controlling individual OLED pixels to improve display performance.

Production Schedule and Release Date

The 11-inch and 13-inch OLED iPad Pro models are projected to enter mass production around March, aligning with a scheduled release in April.

Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also weighed in, expecting the new iPad Pro models to be unveiled in the second quarter of 2024, which spans from April to June.

Rumours from a Bloomberg report indicate that the new iPad Pro models could be announced at a March event, possibly alongside a new iPad Air available in two sizes for the first time.

Typically, Apple opens pre-orders during or shortly after an event, followed by deliveries to customers in the subsequent week.

Advantages of OLED Displays OLED displays mark a first for the iPad lineup, offering deeper blacks and more vibrant colors compared to LED or mini-LED.

Although OLED screens are more costly, they are expected to enhance the visual experience for iPad Pro users.

Specs and Pricing

Despite a decrease in the forecasted OLED iPad Pro shipments to 8 million units for 2024, down from the initial projection of 10 million units, Apple's groundbreaking iPad Pro models are hotly anticipated.

Speculations suggest that prices for the OLED iPad Pro could start from $1,500 and reach as high as $2,000.

The upcoming iPad Pro models are anticipated to be powered by Apple's latest M3 chip, which offers significant graphics improvements over the current M2 chip.

Furthermore, a redesigned Magic Keyboard accessory is rumored to accompany the devices due to the expected screen and tablet form factor changes.
