Lenovo Tech World 2023: Motorola reveals new bendable phone concept

The showcase of the Motorola bendable phone prototype sparks interest in the possibilities it holds in the future.

Lenovo Tech World 2023: Motorola reveals new bendable phone concept

At the Lenovo Tech World 2023 event, one of the highlights was the discussion around artificial intelligence. The event also witnessed the unveiling of Motorola's latest iteration of their bendable phone concept.

Improvements Over Previous Models

Motorola's bendable phone concept was first showcased at Tech World 2016, a few years after the company was acquired by Lenovo.

However, the 2023 model presented at the event proved to be more advanced than its predecessor. Built around a flexible OLED display, the smartphone can bend backward to wrap around the wrist, resembling a cuff-style bracelet.

Enhanced Features and Functions

Unlike the 2016 version, the new prototype offered more than just the snap-bracelet mode. It showcased various poses, including the happy worm and a tented mode, resembling an incomplete cuff.

Notably, the prototype had a friendly orange fabric backing, and when it was snapped onto the wrist, a blank metal square held in place with a watch band was visible.

This metal square appeared to be magnetic, serving the purpose of preventing the phone cuff from detaching during movement.

Refined Presentation and Engagement

Motorola's Lexi Valasek from the Innovation Research team took the stage, dedicating approximately one minute to discussing the concept and demonstrating an on-device wallpaper-generation feature.

This extended screen time marked a significant increase compared to the limited exposure the 2016 version received.

Challenges and Future Prospects

While the bendable phone prototype showcased potential, it still raised questions and challenges that need to be addressed.

The market launch of this device remains unknown as of now.
