Instagram Reels will include all videos under 15 minutes

Instagram claims that Reels offer a more engaging and entertaining way to view and produce videos, and therefore, new video postings under 15 minutes will be posted as Reels.

In its latest update, Instagram is merging videos and Reels.

According to the company, Reels provide a more immersive and fun way to view and create videos. Very soon, new video postings under 15 minutes will be posted as Reels. Videos uploaded prior to this update will stay videos and will not be converted into Reels.

For those who have a public Instagram account, their new videos — now called Reels — may be recommended and viewed by more people. This rule also applies to reels under 90 seconds in length. If an account is set to private, only the user’s followers will see their Reels.

Instagram will also merge the video and Reels tabs on your profile, creating a single location for all your videos.

The company has also introduced templates. Instagram claims that by preloading audio and clip placeholders, templates make it easy to create a reel since all a user needs to do is add their own photographs or video clips. On the Reels tab, users can find template ideas by tapping the camera symbol.
