The budget phone segment just got hotter with Redmi's new 5G contender. We're here to see if the Redmi 13 5G lives up to the hype and snatches the crown for affordability and performance. In this Redmi 13 5G review, we take a look at Redmi 13 5G pros and cons, best features and real world performance and we are gonna find out that this is the budget 5G phone that can fit in everyone’s pocket.

Redmi 13 5G Design and Build Quality

The Redmi 13 5G enters the budget smartphone market with an aesthetically pleasing glass back that imparts a premium feel. The design, while slightly boxy and heftier than its sleeker counterparts, offers a solid in-hand experience. Our review unit came in a striking orchid pink colour that definitely catches the eye.

The phone features tactile, clicky volume buttons and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that responds swiftly to touch. On the opposite side, users will find a dual SIM card slot, which also accommodates a microSD card for additional storage – a handy feature for those needing extra space.

Audio is delivered through a mono speaker that performs adequately for its class. Additionally, Redmi deserves commendation for preserving the 3.5mm headphone jack, a beloved feature for wired audio enthusiasts. The device is also equipped with an IP53 rating for dust and splash resistance, and it includes an IR blaster to control home appliances.

      Redmi 13 5G Display

The Redmi 13 5G sports a 6.79-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2400x1080, protected by Gorilla Glass 3 for those oops moments. This setup ensures a robust and clear viewing experience, ideal for multimedia consumption. The display features a noticeable chin on the bezel, adding a bit of bulk but maintaining a modern look.

However, it's worth noting the display lacks support for 4K and HDR video playback on platforms like YouTube. Despite this, the screen remains readable in direct sunlight and features a 120Hz refresh rate, a significant improvement over its predecessor, enhancing the smoothness of visual transitions. Redmi continues to enhance its offerings in this area.

      Redmi 13 5G Performance

Under the hood, the Redmi 13 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 (Accelerated Edition) chipset. This processor is quite capable within its price range, handling everyday tasks like web browsing, social media scrolling, and content streaming with ease. The phone offers configurations of 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, marking an upgrade from the previous generation's 4GB RAM.

For gaming enthusiasts, the phone supports popular titles like COD Mobile at Very High, High settings and BGMI at smooth, extreme graphics. While it's not tailored for hardcore gaming, it's more than capable of handling casual gameplay.

Performance benchmarks are respectable, with scores of 959 in single-core and 2256 in multi-core on Geekbench. The Antutu benchmark got a score of 437685, though it's important to note that CPU throttling can occur up to 79%.

      Redmi 13 5G Camera

The camera setup includes a 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM6 main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. Images are vibrant and detailed but colours can be a bit punchier in strong lighting conditions. The device supports 3x lossless zoom and performs well in low-light conditions thanks to its Night mode.

Video capabilities are limited to 1080p at 30fps, and while video stabilisation could be improved, the overall camera performance is decent for its price bracket.

The 13MP front camera produces clear selfies with natural skin tones, though it tends to over-brighten faces. Overall, the camera on the Redmi 13 5G is capable enough in its price point, but versatility is lacking here. Maybe an ultrawide lens could have been added here.

      Redmi 13 5G Battery

The battery segment is where the Redmi 13 shines. It's equipped with a robust 5030mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging and, yes, the charger is included in the box. The device can be fully charged in just over an hour (72 minutes), and it comfortably lasts a full day on moderate use, with sufficient backup even on more demanding days.

      Redmi 13 5G Software

On the software front, the Redmi 13 5G runs HyperOS, based on Android 14. The interface is intuitive with a range of customisation options. Although the phone comes with some pre-installed bloatware, these can be uninstalled if desired. An added perk is the inclusion of FM Radio. Redmi also promises two years of Android updates and four years of security updates, ensuring longevity.

      Redmi 13 5G Verdict

The Redmi 13 5G is a commendable option for those seeking a stylish, feature-rich smartphone without breaking the bank. It offers a good mix of performance, design, and utility. While it may not cater to the needs of serious gamers or videographers, it stands out as a solid choice for the average consumer looking for a reliable everyday device.
