In a leap forward in home entertainment, Samsung recently unveiled its top of the line AI-powered smart TV - Neo QLED 8K, during the Unbox and Discover event on April 17.
The advanced television, powered by the in-house NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, integrates cutting-edge technology to redefine the user experience, much like their other devices in the form of the Galaxy S series smartphones and home appliance lines.
NQ8 AI Gen3 Processor
At the heart of Samsung's innovation is the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, which Mohandeep Singh, Senior Vice-President of the Consumer Electronics Business at Samsung India, describes as a sophisticated blend of hardware and software.
"The AI in our new Neo QLED 8K smart TV incorporates both hardware and software elements. The NQ8 AI Gen3 processor includes a neural processor that's double the speed of its predecessor, capable of managing 512 neural networks.
This advancement significantly enhances our ability to handle AI tasks on-device and to offer new services to our customers," Singh shared during a pre-launch meeting with Editorji.
He also mentioned that part of the research and development for these innovations occurs in India, demonstrating Samsung's commitment to integrating local expertise in global product development.
Tailored Visual and Audio Excellence
According to Singh, the AI capabilities of the Neo QLED 8K smart TV is finely tuned to recognize and adapt to both the content and the viewer's environment, ensuring optimal output.
"The AI technology in our TVs is designed to comprehend the user's viewing intentions as well as the surrounding environment, optimizing audio and visual settings for the best possible experience," he commented.
This technology shines during sports broadcasts, where the AI Motion Enhancer Pro technology enhances clarity for fast-moving images, such as tracking a cricket ball, making it clear and blur-free. "This feature proves particularly useful during cricket by maintaining clarity and eliminating blurriness when following the ball," Singh illustrated, highlighting the practical application of this technology.
Moreover, features like Real Depth Enhancer Pro and AI Sound Technology, which include Active Voice Amplifier Pro, adjust picture depth and audio volumes in response to environmental noise, ensuring an immersive viewing experience.
Furthermore, the AI-driven picture technology enhances every detail with remarkable clarity and realism, capturing everything from subtle facial expressions to nuanced textures.
The 8K AI Upscaling Pro feature elevates the visual quality of users' favourite shows and movies, providing an exceptional level of detail and sharpness.
Expanding the AI Ecosystem
Singh revealed forthcoming expansions to Samsung's AI capabilities across more of its smart TV lineup. "We plan to introduce additional smart TVs that are equipped with robust AI-driven hardware solutions, extending these advancements even to earlier models where hardware limitations don't exist," he stated.
This indicates Samsung's ongoing commitment to enhancing its consumer electronics with sophisticated technology.
Why AI? Meeting Consumer Demands
Singh also explained the strategic role of AI in their product development. "AI serves as a pivotal tool in meeting the evolving needs of our customers, and the increased consumer awareness and interest help us in effectively communicating our innovations," he noted.
The Broader Impact of AI in Televisions
AI technology is profoundly transforming the television industry beyond just Samsung's innovations. It improves user interaction through enhanced voice control capabilities and personalizes the viewing experience with smarter content recommendations.
Furthermore, AI greatly improves picture quality through advanced image upscaling techniques, which elevate lower-resolution content to higher clarity and detail on modern high-resolution screens.
As Singh emphasized, integrating AI not only meets the evolving demands of consumers but also sets new benchmarks in the television industry.
Samsung has introduced the Neo QLED 8K models in India, with starting prices set at ₹3,19,990.
