Apple launches new MacBook Pro models with latest M1 Pro, M1 Max chipsets

Apple has launched new MacBook Pro models at its latest October 18 Apple 'Unleashed' event.

The new MacBook Pro models have been introduced in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, with the option of two chipsets--the M1 Pro and M1 Max. Both are the latest home-grown Apple silicon, and come with more powerful performance than the previous M1 chip. The M1 Pro features up to a 10-core CPU and up to a 16-core GPU, while the M1 Max features a 10-core CPU and up to a 32-core GPU. The M1 Pro chip can be configured with up to 32GB RAM, while the M1 Max chip can be configured with up to 64GB RAM. However, both can be configured with up to 8TB of SSD storage.

The new MacBook Pro models sport 14.2-inch and 16.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR Displays with mini-LED technology, and also get Apple's ProMotion technology for an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The displays also house an iPhone-style notch that holds the new 1080p webcam, and a six-speaker sound system with support for Dolby Atmos and spatial audio.

Both MacBook Pro models ditch the Touchbar this time, and instead get a row of physical function keys. Moreover, there's the return of the HDMI port and SDXC card slot, apart from the presence of four Thunderbolt 4 ports. The new MacBook Pros also get Apple's MagSafe 3 charging technology, that uses a magnetic port for attachment.

When it comes to battery life, the 14-inch MacBook Pro claims to offer up to 17 hours of video playback on a single charge, while the larger 16-inch MacBook Pro can accomplish up to 21 hours of video playback.

Meanwhile, the 16-inch MacBook Pro starts from ₹2,39,900 for the base M1 Pro chip, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage. The same sized MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip starts from ₹3,29,900 for the 32GB RAM with 1TB SSD storage model.

The new MacBook Pro models are available to purchase in India, and shipping starts from October 28.
