Android may soon allow users to convert physical SIM to eSIM

Google is developing a functionality for turning physical SIM cards to eSIMs. This would make it simple for customers to move an eSIM from an older device to a new one.

Google has recently begun distributing the Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 update, offering Pixel users with a glimpse of potential March Feature Drop improvements. In addition to 31 new emojis, there’s also a feature that enables you to force-theme icons on your home screen.

Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 includes a new system property that hints to a forthcoming feature that will likely allow users to move an eSIM profile from an older Android device to a new one. Users may also be able to transfer a physical SIM card from an older device to an eSIM profile on a new device.

Android does not yet let users move their eSIM profile from one device to another. To do so, consumers must deactivate the eSIM profile on their old phone and activate it on their new handset. To activate the eSIM on the new phone, consumers may need to contact their carrier and through a demanding activation procedure.

iOS, on the other hand, already has a Quick Move function that enables customers to transfer physical or eSIMs from an old iPhone to a new model without notifying the carrier.
