Delegation led by Nitish Kumar to meet PM Modi over demands for caste-based Census

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday told reporters that a delegation of leaders from 10 parties would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to demand a caste-based Census.

Nitish Kumar led delegation will include opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, a strong critic of the state government.

He informed that PM Modi has agreed to meet the delegation at 11 am on Monday. He also said an entire list of the delegation has been sent to the PM.

Kumar added that ‘it is the desire of the people that there must be a caste Census as he hoped for a positive discussion on the subject.

The JDU leader has been echoing the demand for a caste-based Census for some time now. On July 24, the Bihar CM first tweeted the demand and reiterated it after his party's national executive meeting in Delhi on July 31.

After the Union minister of state for home Nityanand Rai said in the Lok Sabha that the Centre would not enumerate the population according to caste, Nitish Kumar took the charge and suggested otherwise.
